Cat and Mike Markosky have a truly special calling and passion for the special needs community. I highly recommend their farm/center as a place of learning, healing, and enjoyment for the entire famil...y. The farm and horses are beautiful, and the therapists are knowledgeable, loving, and kind. STAT has been a "home away from home" for me and a HUGE blessing. Thank you, Cat and Mike, for all you do for so many people. You really make a difference! See More

This is an amazing place. They are very caring and patient with my son. My son has cerebral palsy and has very poor head and trunk control. He has gotten so much stronger since he started. He loves ri...ding horses. The barn atmosphere is very relaxed. They are also flexible with the scheduling. See More

I have been blessed to watch Catherine Markosky take a dream and make it come true. The countless hours, her heart and soul goes into everything she does. The families and children that STAT provides ...for are always her main concern. When you walk into the barn you can feel her love, it's like getting a big hug every time. It's so hard for me to put into words how much this amazing women has dedicated to this organization, all while raising her own beautiful children. I'm a better person because I have been a part of STAT and because Cat has shown me what is really important in life - people. See More

We are so thankful for the support STAT has given us to help with my son, Nick, being able to participate in therapeutic riding! My son has Cerebral Palsy and uses a wheelchair to support him in all ...activities. Therapeutic riding is one thing he does that gets him out of his chair and gives him the opportunity to challenge himself physically. With the use of side walkers, he works on keeping his head up and balance. He has the opportunity to feel movement similar to what someone experiences when they walk. His confidence increases as he directs the horse with his voice and because he is pushing himself beyond his comfort level by getting out of his chair and up on the top of the horse. It would be very challenging for us to provide this opportunity without some assistance so we are so very blessed and thankful for the support we receive. How amazing and powerful! Nick's smile says it all!!! See More

STAT is an awesome non-profit organization. What Cat has been able to do with all the leaders at each farm is simply amazing. My oldest has been doing horse therapy for almost 5 years and my youngest ...just started. The benefits are amazing. STAT has the most wonderful volunteers who love the children and work so well with them. I feel so fortunate we have this opportunity. See More

An abridged version by Libby Smith, Equine Partners in Counseling: Empathy and Horses.
Kindness it appears can be a cognitive action that comes from a thought or a need to gain something in return. Empathy on the other hand, is a heart-centered and projected emotion that is difficult to show if it is not authentic. So just what is empathy? It is defined as the ability to identify with the feelings of another. It is being able to relate to someone else in a way that says, “, I understand because it has happened to me as well”. Watching empathy in action is a tremendously powerful gift. When "rescued humans" are placed with “rescued horses,” it is magical.

There is a connection between the two that is undeniably strong.

It is as if they say to each other, "I see you and I understand you because I have been in your shoes." As clients brush these horses they do so in a way that shows careful attention to every inch on the horse's bodies. Some talk softly to the horses, sometimes sharing information about themselves that perhaps they have never shared with another human.

There’s a place in Ligonier that can offer this kind of healing. So
...if you find yourself feeling anxious, depressed, sad, lost, and/or confused - make an appointment with us and come to 24 Stom Road and choose a horse to brush, you will be amazed and delighted with how wonderful you feel when you offer empathy AND kindness to another creature on the planet.

I'm getting a lot of the same question lately "What is the difference between Hippotherapy (American Hippotherapy Association) and Therapeutic Riding (PATH)?

We serve the same population, both use a horse... but Hippotherapy is NOT a horseback riding lesson. It is not considered to be a form of therapeutic or adaptive horseback riding. It is a therapy treatment strategy. In fact the patient likely will not be sitting on a saddle, and will not be holding onto the horses rei...ns. The patient is working on therapy goals and objectives selected by a licensed occupational, physical of speech therapist.

For more information, check out my blog and STAT's new website below! And if you have a moment, please LIKE our Facebook Page STAT - STAT Ligonier Therapeutic Center

If your child would like lessons, we do offer lessons, just wanted to mention that because that is another frequent question

Catherine Markosky is feeling smart.

A company came to me and asked if they could redesign my website. I’ve known my website (was) old and needed a fresh look!

He gave me a price between $3000 an...d $5000! I was like.....Huh?!?!

Instead I redesigned one myself

check it out! Tell me what you think!

And if you’d like me to design a website for YOU! Seriously, message me! I used WIX and can make you a website MUCH CHEAPER than $3000-5000. AND.... I’ll teach you how to make your own modifications and updates and how to manage your SEO.

All proceeds from web design services will go to the charity STAT so we can build our indoor arena!
