This afternoon's effort, slashed in at the bottom. And I know you're thinking Hopper, and this is the bane of New England artists. Every time one paints an old house around here, people say "oh, that's a Hopperesque ." He just so owns that subject. 8 x 12" or 20 x 30 cm, oil.#pleinairpainting #waldaborromaine

Two nocturne painting starts from yesterday. The large one from life, a scene in Waldaboro, Maine for the Waldaboro Paint the Town 2017 auction on August 5th.The small one, a studio piece from reference and sketches that is a speculative commission. #nocturnepainting #waldaborromaine

Here's a better image of one I did a couple weeks ago. I really struggle painting close-ups of trees. There's so much drawing accuracy involved. If you really want to paint a particular tree, it's almost as complicated as painting a person. "Finnish Church, South Thomaston, Maine." 9 x 10", or 22.5 x 25 cm, oil. Available.

Here's the 4 x 6" (10 x 15 cm) oil painting I left for my hosts at the Wiscasset Pleinair Event. Very typical Maine scene, but I think a solid sketch.

Here's one I did this afternoon in Wiscasset. Couldn't quite finish it before the sun went away, but I finished it from memory. Now off to go paint one last nocturne with hope for a potential sale. "View to Wiscasset Bay,"10 x 9" or 25 x 22.5 cm, oil.

Here I s this afternoon's effort, number four, at the Wiscasset, Maine paint the town event. Just in the last couple weeks I've been really thinking about leaving canvas exposed in my sketches and as a result using sometimes pointillistic brushstrokes. Something I want to continue exploring. What I like about it is that the paintings seem to have more air in them. "Big Foot Alley, Wiscassett", 15 x 7" or 37.5 x 17.5 cm, oil

Here's last nights nocturne at Wiscasset Harbor. Such stunning compositions at this place. 10 x 11" or 25 x 27.5cm, oil #pleinairpainting #wiscassetpaintthetown2017 #wiscassetmaine

Here is the second one at the Wiscasset, Maine Plein air event. First one was wiped in disgust. 10 x 9", o r25 x 22.5 cm, oil. #pleinairpainting #wiscassetmaine

Here is my golden hour sketch from my Sunday in Stonington, Maine. I think the image is a little blurry, but I will post a close up over the next few days. I go to the Wiscasset, Maine Plein-air Fest tomorrow! Busy week. 4 x 6", or 10 x 15 cm, oil #pleinairpainting #stoningtonmaine

First painting at the Castine ,Maine plein air festival 2017. One of the loveliest towns in Maine. Always a pleasure to paint here.

Here's a better image of one from the other day. Another classic Maine view. When I pulled up here, the whole scene was filled with this lovely fog, but by the time I was finishing setting up it was all gone. #paintanyway ! 9 x 10" or 22.5 x 25 cm, oil.

Here's a better Image of my night scene from a couple days ago. I tried to crop it down to just the painting, but Instagram won't let me show quite the whole thing for some reason when I do that. So here you go, blue tape and all. "Wyeth Center by Night ," 8 x 12" or 20 x 25 cm, oil.

Painting boats at Camden, Maine Harbor today. It looks OK in the photo, but man, what a bear today was. I started one in the sun, which was definitely substandard, then the sun went away, then the fog rolled in, and well, boats are just hard to paint. They have really subtle curves, this one looks a little wonky to me, although fixable. And I love the fog, but dammit, just make up your mind! Busy place, met lots of lovely people. Swipe to see the set up.
