When plastic debris is introduced to a coral reef system, the likelihood of coral disease increases from 4 - 89% – a 20-fold change. Check out this paper: “Plastic waste associated with disease on coral reefs,” recently published by Science.
So when you travel to places with poor refuse practices (like Latin America and the Caribbean) bring back what ever plastic you bring down with you -- reuse or recycle it here.

More ridiculous uses of plastic and synthetic packaging. Why not think twice when purchasing. (Organic eggs in plastic is one of my pet peeves.)

Another single use plastic bottle. Marketed to kids (and parents) to start a life time of thoughtless plastic use. Advertised on by Safeway. Please ask them not to purchase this wasteful product.
