As we celebrate this Christmas season we must not forget what it is really about. Christmas is not a secular holiday. It's not about trees, although they are pretty. It's not about gifts, even though receiving a gift from a loved one is very nice. Nor is it about Santa Claus, for he has done nothing worthy of his reputation. We must remember where it all started and what it is really about. Jesus Christ came into this world and began the 33 year long journey towards saving us.... Saving us from hell and saving us for Himself. What can we give HIM this season? Not what can we get. He doesn't desire much, just for us to BELIEVE. What else...who else... is gonna save you from this world and our rightful punishment? From the pain and suffering and sin once you cross over to the other side? It doesn't end there. There is an afterlife and there is only one way to God. This Christmas give the gift of your heart to your savior. If you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, then you shall be saved. Not tomorrow...for tomorrow is not promised. Today. Give Jesus the best birthday gift ever... yourself.
Romans 12:1-2 (The Message) So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you."
As a person who can get really bogged down by trying to be productive or upset by how unproductive I feel, it is important to realize my worth is not wrapped up in my successes nor my failures. My destiny is not to be "great" so to speak… But to become who Christ called me to be, and to grow closer in my relationship with Jesus. For people like me, it is very easy to get lost trying to be "Martha"...When Jesus really wants me to be "Mary". May we worship at his feet today!
We need to be churches that are focused on the people outside of the walls. The fields are ripe for the harvest… But the laborers are few. Church is not a social club…it should be more like a Christian refugee camp. A temporary place (because heaven is our true home) where people fleeing the despair and desolation of this world can find respite and Jesus.
"Some of us are more in love with the idea of Justice than with Justice itself. Everyone loves Justice until there's a cost. At some point you have to stop theologizing about Samaria, you have to walk through Samaria." - Eugene Cho
