The Homeschool Book ShopBookstore in Spokane, Washington
Hello, Homeschool Families and Friends!
Wanted to let you know that there is an organization/individual in the Spokane area who is doing an online book store. No contact has been made with The Homeschool Book Shop and it is not affiliated with us. We appreciate the need and interest in local consignment/used curriculum sales and hope that you are finding ways to swap and save with other home educators.
We miss our wonderful customers and fun Shop, but have no plans for reopen...ing at this time.
Blessings to you and to all families who are doing their best to serve their children through home education! It is not cheap and it is not trivial!!
Owner of The Homeschool Book Shop
The Shop website will be completely disabled September, 2015. We have been closed since June, 2014 and still receive 50 or more hits a week on the site. Thank you for your patronage!
Wish I could check in with all the customers that have shared a piece of their lives with me through the Shop. I would love to know how you are all doing! It has been one year since we closed our doors. In just a few days from now, it will be one year since we turned the keys back into the land lord.
I miss it. Definitely. I miss you all, the folks who came in and shopped, browsed, brought your spouse on a date, and asked a lot of really excellent questions. I miss hearing yo...ur amazing stories and watching your kids grow up. I miss watching you learn how to love and serve your children better.
The main reason for closing the Shop was that my own kids were growing up and I was missing the last few years of this amazing homeschool, parenting journey. This spring, my oldest child graduated and is continuing to pursue his passion for music through our church, through teaching lessons, and through his Celtic band, Broken Whistle.
My next child has two more years and my third has three years. They are busy with academics, service, Irish dance, Civil Air Patrol, friends, drivers Ed (we will survive), and much more. We are so busy living life that I am thankful to not be worrying over the Shop, but I still miss certain aspects! I don't know what the future holds and I am hoping that someone in our community will step up and open another shop or homeschool library. I must finish the race well before I can even think about what is next.
Wishing you a happy Fourth, happy homeschooling, and happy planning for next year!
May you find joy and fulfilling love in Christ,
Just letting folks know I am still alive.
From time to time, my husband asks me if I am glad I opened the Shop and glad that I closed it. My answer is the same. Yes and yes.
I have no doubt that when you are trusting there Savior for direction and guidance, He will give it. When I opened the Shop, it was OBVIOUS that He was opening all the doors and throwing me in! When I decided to close the Shop, it was just as OBVIOUS that it was the right action!...
I was blessed by our awesome community while I was open and have been blessed to be home with my kids more. I am waiting on the Lord for clear direction for the future, but home education, encouraging the builders of our society (parents), and seeing kids LOVE learning is still a significant passion in my heart. As my own children begin the transition from teens to adults, I see more and more how important this job is. I praise God for a supportive husband who blessed my efforts as a mother and business owner. Even through bumps in parenting, marriage, and business ownership, God's live and Word hold us together.
May you be blessed this Christmas and enjoy celebrating the birth of the Risen Savior!
Setting up a new website for local resources. It will be called Homeschool Shop Talk. Publish date to be announced, but you can start keeping track of this new venture by following Homeschool Shop Talk on FB. Thanks!
Good to be back to "consumer-only mode" when it comes to homeschool books. It's moments like this that make the process sooo fun! We received our order of workbooks for grammar this year (taking a Rod & Staff) break. If you have not explored Royal Fireworks Press, consider their writing curriculum. It is assuming that the parent/teacher has a basic ability to spot writing errors, but the curriculum does give the educator guidance in spotting errors. Also, note that the curriculum is geared towards classical schoolers and readers of classic literature. In a public school scenario, the students are usually considered gifted. For our homeschool, classical, analytical family purposes, this company does a fine job!
Still settling in to home. This is one of about 15 Mega Stacks of our personal family library! We are dusting, reorganizing, sorting, and enjoying a walk down 15 years of homeschool and family memories! I have been book crazy since I was a little girl. My family was poor and my mom would collect used books all year and for Christmas, I would get an entire box of used books! My all time favorite Christmas tradition!
I think I have everyone of those books, still, and now I pass the love on to my kids! Thanks, Mom!!
