Holy Fuck! This is insanely awesome by every metric. This place is kinda secretive from the exterior. My brother and I were walking through Robbinsdale, and we smelled an amazing aroma of smoked BBQ. ...We literally followed the smell to this nondescript building, and couldn't tell how to enter. We we're told to enter through what looked like a walk-in freezer door. Upon entering, there was a packed, full house in an open, expansive area full of all kinds of culinary activity, as well as an extensive bar. Employees were bustling around like army ants, and the smells were delectable. We sat down next to a friendly fellow named Jordan, who explained how everything worked here at the Rookery: he also showed us the brisket sandwich he was working on, which we promptly follow suite; and orders as well.
We orders up two Moscow miles while we waited while we watched Wheel of Fortune and chatted with our new friend.
When those sandwiches came, I can without a doubt say it was the best brisket I've had ever. Cooked perfectly. A tangy South Carolina slaw accompanied it, as well as made at home-Style pickles, a jalapeño vinegar dipping sauce, and a hot link. The meat was perfect. Juicy, not too dry, peppered savory; fatty. It was amazing, and everything. Complimented each other perfectly. Don't sleep on this place. I hear you only have this summer to try it to!

Love the bar layout after being convinced by my friend to make the walk over.

Absolutely amazing! Incredibly fun, with a creative vibe from the passionate staff! Great BBQ and drinks that top the list of best places for both in the Twin Cities. Our new favorite place! I absolutely admire the staff for being so lively and fun. The ambiance of the Rookery is really casual and upbeat. The food is amazing. I can't express enough on how unique and delicious the food is.... The drinks are also really good and refreshing. It's definitely one of my new favorite places to eat. See More

Had a great Birthday celebration this weekend at The Rookery. This first time experience was a real treat hosted by co-owner Bob Gerken. Thanks so much for the tremendous hospitality Bob!
Of the fifte...en items we ordered from their taste menu, Carol and I experienced one incredibly prepared dish after the other that by the end of the meal left us entirely satisfied and extremely happy.
Standouts included their Awesome Dumplings, Bacon wrapped Scallop, Cauliflower Bisque Soup, Roasted Mushroom and Truffle, Pork Croquette Bahn Mi, Five Spice Sausage, Sexy Avocado, Burger, Coconut Cream Puff, and Lemon Tart.
Also, of the four specialty drink selections we thoroughly enjoyed, served up by bartender Ross, their Violette Pilot consisting of Gin, Hibiscus and Lemon, and their Italian Stallion consisting of Gin, Ginger and Italian Bitters were simply awesome!
Yet, for as exceptional as the food and drink was the atmosphere of the restaurant and the quality of the service provided us were two other things to take particular notice of. This restaurant is in and of itself a lot of fun, and the level of care that was extended to us with every item served, displayed the genuine love and passion that goes into all that the staff do.
Without a doubt this is a restaurant to highly recommend, and I do! Thanks again Bob!

Full of new flavors and a fun atmosphere. The food is always changing and like nothing I've had before. The staff are extremely friendly and make you feel right at home.

Thanks, Rookery-ites for a great evening! Each dish better and more unique than the last, in true Travail fashion. Not many would have the courage to take on giant gnocchi and fewer still would pull i...t off so well. Each dish earned its own accolades. And the cocktails hold up their end of the bargain. Happy New Year! We are back in the kitchen prepping today & tomorrow and will be open for service on THURSDAY, JAN 8th at 5pm (note we are not open tomorrow- Wednesday 1/7) Ps Pig Ate My Pizza is open tonight, tomorrow and the rest of the week. Another year, another shout out to our amazing Travailian family. Thanks for all your support and for all the spirited nights we've spent together. You all are ...amazing!

Now please excuse us while we take a moment to spend time with friends and family, and eventually tend to the inevitable turkey coma. Travail, The Rookery, and Pig Ate My Pizza will be closed for Thanksgiving Break from 11/20 - 11/29. We will open on Wednesday, 11/30.
