Video: Kenyan runner Philip K maxes out at 22km/h in VAMEVAL (peak running speed) test as part of a three-test battery in our East African running study (5km treadmill TT and fatigue intervals the other two). Brain & muscle oxygenation, VO2, EMG, biomechanics & anthropometry will hopefully tell a story in the coming months! Been a pretty impressive few weeks. Thanks to @jordansudafrica and the team for great work. Ross

[Video]: This is how an elite VO2max test ends, at 22km/h in the VAMEVAL test. Running economy 180 ml/kg/km. One thing we have in common is complete exhaustion. Just that some 'fail' at a slightly higher level than others! Continued privilege to test the upper limits of human running performance

Some video footage of our Kenyan running research from today. 5km time-trials, measuring brain oxygenation. This at 2:55/km, HR 200, SpO2 93%. So far, so good. Next step is maximal testing, economy & fatigue investigations. Privileged to study and learn from these exceptional runners.

The IAAF's research study into performance and testosterone (as affects Caster Semenya) is affected by significant data errors and problems, and it has to be retracted. This is the result of a three month back-and-forth, where a group of us requested data from the IAAF, and found significant problems.

Obviously, suggesting a retraction is a big step, but when we compared the published data to what was eventually sent to us, we found between 17% and 33% of the data was flawed... or erroneous. This could have huge implications for the conclusions of the paper, though nobody can say whether they'll strengthen or weaken the findings. Regardless, that's enough to say that the paper must be retracted, and to call for more transparency in the future.

Here is a thread with some more links and thoughts on this issue:

The French newspaper Le Monde asked me to write an Op-ed addressing the question “can we believe Team Sky and Chris Froome?” This is the article I submitted. The history of the race/sport provides the canvas onto which the words “Trust me” are painted. It will take a lot more than words to reverse the cycle of history to win that trust. Sky fall a long way short of meeting that standard:

The French newspaper Le Monde asked me to write an Op-Ed on the 2018 Tour de France, specifically addressing the question "Can we trust Chris Froome and Team Sky". This is the original, unedited piece that was submitted. It details the history of the Tour, which makes up the canvas onto which the wo...
