Picked up a season opening win last night in a little different fashion making a career first start in the RUSH Crate Late Model division in the Jerry Haseleu Jr. owned #RJ1 Rocket Chassis at Roaring knob Motorsports complex in PA. Thanks to Jerry for the opportunity and happy we put it in victory lane!
Just got back to Elkins after driving all night from St. Louis and WOW! The VP Racing Fuels Gateway Dirt Nationals was an awesome event. We qualified 4th out of 97 cars and was sitting pretty good coming to the checkers in our heat race but got doored entering turn 3 which cost us...not mad cause it didn't take long to figure out thats how it was going to be the entire weekend as it became the norm LOL. Fell back in the B main then started making a little headway only to get ...caught up in a pile up in turn 2 which pretty much wiped out our chances of making it into the $20k A-Main the following night...but again sheet metal flyng was just the norm. It was an AWESOME event to be part of...that dome was electric every night, the racing was tight and borderline dirty at times by about everyone but nobody was getting that upset cause it's just how the joint raced. The Gateway bunch did a great job promoting this deal and the DirtonDirt.com guys did an awesome job promoting our sport. I really think this thing could become one of the biggest events in Late Model racing. I'd advise any fans out there if you pick one major event to add to your schedule next year that you go to St. Louis in December, you won't be dissapointed. We'll def go back next year just a little better prepared...take more sheetmetal LOL...Again WOW!!!
At Roaring knob Motorsports complex in PA last night we started last in our heat race and won but had to start the feature 7th because of winning last time there...car was real good and worked our way up thru but something happened with the car midway and it was a real handful...managed to get 2nd late in the race and finished there. Congrats to Michael Lake on the win.
Also our hearts go out to the family of Shane Unger who lost his life in a racing incident at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg,OH last night...bad deal...prayers to his family and friends.
Traveled to PA this weekend for a couple regional specials. We made our first ever visit to Marion Center Speedway on Saturday for their $2500 to win special...no hot laps but our Rocket Chassis was fast right off the trailer, involved in a 3 car race for the lead most of the race and really got after leader the last few laps but came up a 1/2 a car length short and finished 2nd. On to our second visit to Dog Hollow Speedway in Strongstown,PA Sunday for their $4000 to win UFO... Series event where there was a big field of cars...again car was good, redrew 6th position to start feature, raced our way up to second late in the race but just didn't have enough for leader Gregg Satterlee and had to settle for another strong 2nd place finish. Would loved to have pulled one or both wins off but was still a pretty good weekend. Will be at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in PA this Saturday for a regular show, back to Roaring Knob on the 16th/17th for their big $2k and $4k King of the Knob and Big Kahuna UFO Series weekend than on the 23rd and 24th will head back to Dog Hollow for their Thunder Dog UFO Series weekend paying $2k and $6k and move onto some more special events come October.
Back on the track for the first time in a couple weeks last night at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in PA. Had to start 7th for winning there last time and made it up to second in the closing laps...made a run at the leader but needed another lap or 2 so we had to settle for a 2nd Place finish.
$4k Armstrong Classic at Elkins Raceway last night: Qualified good, won the first heat race but had to redraw for starting spot getting the #3. Got to second and tried hard in the closing laps to wrestle the lead away from the eventual winner but couldn't quite get it done and had to settle for a 2nd place finish. Shane Hitt won, congrats to Shane, Tim Leggitt and that entire crew! Also congrats to our buddy Garret Paugh who picked up the win in the Crate class!
Skidmore Memorial at Elkins Raceway night #2:
Qualified good, handily won our heat race, redrew 5 out 6 for dash start which how you finished was to set the front 6 for A-Main, got up racing for 3rd in dash, got the RF ran over and spun so had to start A-Main 6th, raced our way back up to a strong 3rd place finish with a RR tire going down the last 10-15 laps...interesting night LOL but to come out of all that 3rd and a win on Fri made for a decent weekend.Congrats to young Michael Lake on the win!
Won the Ernie Jones Memorial at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg,PA Saturday night. Came home 3rd at Dog Hollow Speedway By DMS Motorsports Sam Barley Memorial last night in Strongstown,PA. At Roaring Knob we qualified 3rd, won our heat and passed the leader 1/2 way thru the A-Main and drove away to win that race for the second straight year! Dog Hollow had a stout field of cars Sunday night and even though we had never seen the place we had a fast Pro Power R...acing Engines Rocket Chassis starting the A-Main 4th, dropping back as far as 7th than racing our way back up towards the front leaving with a 3rd place finish...kinda like Midway Speedway in OH Fri night just too many cautions for our tire choice but was really fast at the end. Lots of miles on the hauler this weekend but we were fast all weekend and had a great time. Midway in OH is a cool little 3 wide joint and the new people there are going to do great. Same with Dog Hollow, terrific facility and fast, racy track.Roaring Knob was good as usual and the fireworks there were AWESOME! If you live anywhere near any of these tracks I highly recommend you check them out! Hope everyone has had a great and safe 4th of July weekend! We will be at Tyler County Speedway this Fri and Sat for their 2nd Annual Mega 100 weekend.
