Lots of thanks for so many who turned out on a very chilly night to see the band off in grand style. The room was packed, some great floor spots, lovely grub and mostly Tinkers Bag in finest form. Thank you Mick, Richard, Nigel, Christine and Gill for making great music over the last 20 years. I am sure we will all get together regularly and play some more but the last proper gig was a memorable one. Look out for some great pictures soon as there were at least 6 very professional snappers there. See you all soon. Bob

Hi all
Just a last minute reminder about the final gig of Tinkers Bag this Monday 11th December.
After 20 years of playing together they have unanimously agreed the time has come to hang up the "bag" and go their separate ways. They wont be stopping performing independently though as Bob & Gill are back out on the road with a promised new album in the spring, Nigel & Christine will be invading the sessions around the New Forest and beyond, Richard will also still be playing f...or various combinations and Mick will still be found in all the traditional haunts with his amazing (80 yr old") voice and repertoire.
It'll be a sad and yet joyful occasion at Devizes Folk Club but one we'd like to extend a welcome to all( Well hopefully not all of you or we'll have to move to the Town Hall
Please let us know if you are able to join us at the Lamb Inn, St Johns St, Devizes tomorrow at 7.45 and we'll see how many we can pack in!.
As it is also the folk club's party night there will be some grub (please bring a contributions) and of course the annual Cheese Straw competition. Bob will be chief judge and tester and the winner gets a prize!
Do let us know if you are coming and look forward to seeing you all tomorrow
Cheers

Well, Its coming - the end of the band performances after 20 years of playing and performing together.
It's sad but a necessary one. We are still all good friends so we haven't fallen out but rather just all felt that it was the right time to change our musical future directions.
Bob & Gill will still be gigging, with a new album in the spring, Nigel & Christine are playing in sessions around the New Forest, Richard will be concentration on his music in and around Pewsey an...d Mick will be turning up all over the place with his inimitable singing. The band will be performing a number of songs and tunes from the past 20 years including lots of old favourites.
The room will be packed hopefully so be prepared to squeeze in . There is a small charge on the door and there will be end of year celebrations too. Bring a small item of food and maybe enter into the annual Cheese Straw competition.

Tinkers Bag - the end is nigh!

It is with much regret that we announce that Wiltshire based Tinkers Bag are to cease performing after our final gig this Christmas 2017.
We have been performing for 20 years since being brought together by Bob & Gill Berry for a recording commissioned by James Harrison at BBC Radio Wiltshire.
That recording, by Chris Corden in Potterne Village Hall, of Christmas songs and tunes, was broadcast on 24th December 1997....
The band grew from a group of friends who had links to Potterne Folk Club. Initially comprising Bob and; Gill Berry, Nigel and Christine Owen, Mick Hiscock, Richard Rees,
Ron Harries and Karel Bechler, Tinkers Bag specialised in producing themed shows.
Of the several shows produced, “The Labourer’s Year” and “A Seasonal Feast" were most popular. We performed in local village halls, folk clubs, Festivals, and most memorably in a 600 seat sports hall in Melksham's twin-town, Avon, near
Fontainebleau, on our weekend Tour de France.
The band recorded CDs of several of the shows. The most recently released is a live recording of a show performed in Mere, Wiltshire called “A Mere Tinkering”, and this followed an early recording called "Tinkering Around" These albums are still available via Bob and Gill.
We have at least two more gigs before the end of the year:

Hyde Village Hall, New Forest, Sat 25th November
Devizes Folk Club, Mon 11th December

We’d like to thank all the people that have shared in our music and assisted us in bookings, recordings and much, much more.
Bob & Gill will still be performing as a duo, Nigel will be making music in the New
Forest area, Mick will be singing at festivals as ever and Richard will be playing in sessions around Wiltshire.
Thanks all, and we are already thinking about an Annual reunion get-together.
Yours in Folk
Tinkers Bag

Just to update everyone on what we are doing:

This coming Friday (April 7th), we will be at Swindon Folksingers Club for the special evening to celebrate the life and songs of our good friend Jim Coughlan.

On Saturday April 8th we are in concert with a new show at the Tin Church, Brokerswood. Abroad for Pleasure is a selection of songs and tunes with a theme of love and relationships. No hippos were harmed in the making of this show.

...

On Sunday April 9th, Bob and Gill will be singing at the Hammerman Day celebrations in Swindon, while the rest of us have a lie down.

On Saturday, April 22nd, we are taking part in a musical hall show in Potterne Village Hall - I sense a tense stand-off about costumes, but all will be resolved before showtime.

Bob and Gill will then resume their usual roles as chief movers and shakers of the Chippenham Folk Festival, and hopefully emerge in one piece sometime later in the Summer.

We are currently planning ahead for another concert in our adopted home of Hyde in the New Forest, on Saturday, November 25th, which may well turn into a birthday party.

And we may also end the year at Devizes Folk Club on Mon, December 11th.

A few years ago I was told that “the problem with Chippenham is that it’s so dance oriented”. In fact I have been told that so many times I was beginning to believe it.
When we book artists to appear at the festival on the song and concert side I get swayed by this, and a good few other things and only get to realise what an amazing line up we have once I start the actual event planning.
And I am simply blown away!
Ok we have HOME SERVICE with the new man in place , JOHN K...IRKPATRICK, JAMES FAGAN & NANCY KERR, possibly the most loved act in the country at the moment, A revival of the wonderful Crows now under the great new name CROW5, CLOUDSTREET as a 3 piece from OZ, PETE COE , that veteran but still amazingly youthful at 70+, CHRIS SHERBURN & DENNY BARTLEY with Emily Sanders, the ridiculously brilliant KEITH DONNELLY and now, would you believe it, COOPE BOYES AND SIMPSON in the last gig of their farewell tour!
Add to that Brian Peters, Dave & Anni, 2 shanty crews, Lynne Heraud & Pat Turner, The wonderful Sound Tradition, Two Coats Colder, The Georgia Lewis Trio, Nanne & Ankie from Friesland, Moira and Carolyn and a whole shed load more.
Predominantly a dance festival at Chippenham??? I should flipping well say not!
More info soon
