Today, a Dutch professor and a family of three Taiwanese booked us a Tainan tour. Before long, a typhoon was reported to strike Taiwan around the tour date, luckily, we were given a sunny day that we even felt a bit hot. The Dutch professor had been to Tainan ten years ago that the memory has faded a lot so he could not really remember the local attraction. I brought him to the main temples of Tainan, such as Grand Mazu Temple, Martial God Temple and Tientan Temple, and the f...ood was absolutely one of the highlight as we not only savored the delicacy and Taiwan beer, but left our leg relax for a while.
Hayashi Department store was a perfect stop to purchase some local specialities and to feel a new life brought by locals. And a Chinese-style church welcomed with a unique architecture, making all the visitors amaze there was such an interesting place in Tainan.
Anping was an ideal destination to spend the afternoon. The sea breeze and the nature provided anther ambience compared with the historical center. We leisurely walked on the beach and enjoyed a cozy sunset of Tainan and the group photo marked the end of the tour.
There are three friends from China , they spent two days in the oldest city of Taiwan , Tainan . It was boiling hot here and we only stopped over few places in Anping and the greenery Sicao Tunnel by bamboo raft . The tree house and the Anping fort told us little history of the past four hundred years and we could also witnessed the few remaining heritages which co-exist with other buildings in the modern world . Not too many local food , the only thing they strived for at the end is rest in the comfortable air-conditioned hotel . At lest they have experience visiting the place mentioned on the text book during the school year . That is part of the purpose of travel , isn't it ?
Street food and roadside vendor compose a iconic scene of Taiwanese culture , and that is part of the reason what international tourists come for . Taiwan is famed for its diversified street food , such as fried chicken , stinky tofu, pig blood cake , wheel cake , braised food , deep-fried squid and so on . For me , the convenience and the reasonable price don't justify my obsession with the street food , their hospitality and the hard-working attitude deserve my respect. Some of the vendors insist high-quality food and have run the small business for decades , perseverance may be the only word I can describe them . Few photos clicked and I will definitely remember the moment I took pictures of them at somewhere . They will still be THERE.
I Don't Seek, I Find
The chilly weather did not stop us going to the peak of Alishan. The blue sky implied a good result at the end of the view deck. After 2 hours of walking , we were lucky to see the main peak of Mt. Jade which were covered with snow . I was amazed at the beauty of the scene. The spectacular mountain range, the clear sky, the provincial highway 18 , the tree with red leaves all formed a wonderful scenery. It was truly a unforgettable memory .
The performance of Ten Drum in Tainan marked the beginning of the Taiwan trip for David Mandi who comes from Abilene , TX. After the performance, we also visited inside of the sugar refinery, took the train which was used to ship sugar cane , and played the drum with lots of fun. That was one of best way to experience Chinese culture .
