TAT trained the new cadets for the Colorado State Patrol Port of Entry course last week. These cadets will be interacting with drivers and are able to use that opportunity to tell them about TAT and the vital role they have to play in combatting it. This training equipped them for just that. Congratulations to the new cadets and thank you Colorado State Patrol for this wonderful opportunity.

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Being part of the solution when it comes to human trafficking - that was the plan as Louisville welcomed thousands of truck drivers to the Mid-America Trucking Show. The annual show took place at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center.
Traffickers have been known to send underage girls to convention hotels and truck stops. A national group, Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT), has an effort underway to get drivers to report the crime.
Not long ago, the Louis...ville Metro Police Department made a huge bust at the convention known as The Biggest Farm Show Ever. Seventeen men were arrested by the LMPD in ‘Operation Pretty Pink Tractor’. Police said those men answered an ad thinking an undercover officer was a minor they could have sex with. It’s a story the group Truckers Against Trafficking knows well.

Ten women — seven prostituted women and three human... trafficking victims — were connected with support services and given a meal during the sting.
My mother used to tell me, “I want you to go to school for me.” She herself had never had the chance. She came from a family of 10 children, and became a domestic worker, caring for another family’s children, by age 8. She stayed with them for eight more years, until she met and married my father.
I grew up in a small town in southeastern Brazil. My goal was always to finish high school, then go onto some kind of professional training. But it was difficult. In my district the...re were not enough schools for the number of children, so the school day was divided into three sessions. I went to the early session, from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Then from noon until bedtime, plus weekends, I worked for a neighbor who had asked me at age 8 to care for her 2-year-old daughter, and later, her second daughter.
WASHINGTON, D.C., Yesterday, the Senate passed H.R. 1865, the FOSTA-SESTA package, which provides access to justice for survivors of online sex trafficking and gives states critical tools for combatting this crime. This is a historic step by the US legislature to recognize the rights of victims by ensuring that websites who knowingly facilitate the sale of sex trafficking victims can be held responsible for their role in the crime.
This bill, now heading to the President’s de...sk, addresses the reality that sex trafficking is exploding online, finding haven in online classifieds that provide a platform to facilitate sex trafficking. Despite knowingly facilitating this crime these websites were permitted to hide behind an outdated and misinterpreted provision of the Communications Decency Act (CDA). Section 230 of the CDA was never intended to protect entities that facilitate sex trafficking and yet, courts repeatedly interpreted Section 230 as providing blanket immunity for online entities, including online entities that knowingly facilitate sex trafficking. In ruling against victims of sex trafficking who attempted to hold Backpage.com civilly liable for knowingly facilitating sex trafficking, courts pointed to the need for Congress to address this injustice through a legislative solution. The growing problem of online sex trafficking is not a new concern. Shared Hope International, in 2007, after researching sex trafficking markets in Jamaica, The Netherlands, United States and Japan, found that “Technology has become the single greatest facilitator of the commercial sex trade.” In the intervening 11 years, the prevalence of sex trafficking online has virtually exploded.
