Institute of Making Event, Saturday 21st October
From 13:00 - 17:00 on Saturday 21st October, The Institute of Making will be hosting an event which will take place outside their premises on Malet Place which may prove to be noisy to customers of the Science Library. The event is entitled "Faking It" and is part of The Bloomsbury Festival. We apologise in advance for any disruption this may cause and suggest that you may want to make use of alternative study spaces available throughout the campus.

Science Library, ground floor works
Library Services is making improvements to the ground floor of the Science Library to enhance the learning facilities and make it quicker and easier for you to get advice from our help points.
What this means for you during the works:
The ground floor of the Science Library will be noisier due to the refurbishment work and there will be changes to how you access the area. We are trying to limit the amount of disruptions for you as much as possible and apologise for any inconvenience you experience during this time.
During the refurbishment:
Access to the open area of the ground floor (comprising the PC cluster, help point, group study pods and ISD services) will be via the first floor.
Alternative routes to ground floor facilities will be signposted.
The self-service returns machine will be inaccessible.
Books may be returned either to the temporary book bin in the lobby of the Science Library or to the help point on the ground floor.
Between 11am and 4pm daily a second help point will operate from the first floor PC cluster room in front of the entrance to the geography reading room.

The impact of the changes:
Once the work is completed in January 2017, it will be exciting to see a state of the art learning space designed around the learning needs you told us about in your feedback.
At the moment we have different help points for Library Services and Information Services. The new layout will combine these into one desk so that you only have to queue once. All staff on the desk will be able to help with general library and IT queries so you can see someone faster. For more in-depth needs you may be referred to a specialist.
The area will also be redecorated with colour schemes chosen by library users in Twitter polls this summer.
We’ll be introducing new self-service facilities to enable fast and easy borrowing and return of books, plus four more new bookable study pods.
All facilities on the newly refurbished ground floor will be available 24/7.
We're very pleased to announce that lockers in the Research Grid will be available to postgraduate students from 9.30 on Monday 22nd August.
There are 50 lockers and these will be available on a first come - first served basis until Friday 16th December in the first instance.
If you would like to borrow a locker, please ask for a key at the Collection Point on the first floor of the Science Library.
Please note that, with immediate effect, there has been a change to the loan limits for books. These are now as follows:
Taught Postgraduates: 15
NHS Staff: 15...
External (Non UCL): 5
Members of staff with more than 40 books on loan are kindly advised to return as many books as possible to the libraries to bring them within the new loan limit.
Please be aware of some planned disruptions to services next week. Full details are here: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/…/20…/library-systems-outage-april-2016
Over the next two weekends (17/18th and 24th/25th October) contractors will be working on the heating pipes in the Earth Sciences reading room, as part of the new graduate Research Grid refurbishment project.
To carry out these works safely the reading room will be closed on the two weekends.
A book fetching service will be operating on the Saturdays, during the Help Point opening hours (11:00 – 18:00)....
These works will cause some disruption to the heating in the Science Library. The heating will be off on the east side of the building until the works have been completed.
We regret that our self service facilities for standard and one week loan books will be unavailable on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September.
Normal service should resume on Monday 10th.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause....
Please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff if you require help.
Due to essential maintenance work, there will be some disruption to our loans service between Monday 20th and Wednesday 22nd July.
The work will affect some aspects of the Explore service and our library management system, meaning that our self service facilities will be unavailable during this period.
Staff will be available at the Help Point and (for loans and returns) at the Collection point. Unfortunately, it won’t be possible for you to renew books, to pay any charges, ...or to collect any Interloans items. However, no books will be due during this period and fines will not be charged.
Normal service is expected to resume on Thursday 23rd July, but services should be considered at risk at least for part of the day.
PLEASE NOTE: In addition to the above, staff will not be available to loan books on Tuesday 21st July due to our annual Staff Conference. It will, however, be possible to return books to the book bin in the lobby of the Science Library.
Monday 20th July: No self service or Explore facilities. Books may be borrowed and returned at the Collection Point.
Tuesday 21st July: No self service or Explore facilities. No loans service. Books may be returned to book bins in the lobby.
Wednesday 22nd July: No self service or Explore facilities. Books may be borrowed and returned at the Collection Point.
Thursday 23rd July: Normal service expected to resume but should be considered at risk.
Thank you for you patience.
Many of you will be eager to get straight into work the day after your final exam, so here's some helpful advice from the Grauniad:
The Management reading room on the 2nd floor of the Science Library will be closed between 09.00-18.00 on Tuesday 28th April. This is to allow some of the shelving to be removed before additional study tables are added to the reading room.
