for more than 20 years, dion has been a part of the detroit music scene. he's been in bands, managed a record store, opened his own record store, and then gave birth to the ufo factory. it has had sev...eral incarnations in several locations in the past decade. he understands what it is like to be on tour and provides all the things a band on the road would hope for - a clean bar, clean bathrooms, a trustworthy door man, a good sound system and sound man, and a chance to get your songs heard. dion has been taking chances to help the underdog for so many years now because he has also been the underdog. he has cared about detroit through many years where many others could care less, he has supported music and the arts, and spent a good deal of personal time also rescuing and finding homes for stray animals. dion's been a good leader in our community, and the ufo factory has been a great place for people to find their community and be a part of it. music and art, being kind to strays, and serving up vegan hot dogs. if he opens back up it will be wonderful, and if this is all we'll ever have - i'm grateful for the love he has given this community. thanks dion. we're lucky to have you. In a sea of places designed to cater to the mainstream, even in a pre-gentrification Detroit, places that bow down to the almighty sports dollar, that demand of their entertainment a dumbing down, a w...hite wash, a normalization...UFO has always stood out for me as a place where outsider expression was appreciated and encouraged in an environment that was accepting and pushed boundaries that a strictly capitalist venture are not supposed to push. This all happened in a non threatening manner, where if you wanted to dive into "something else," it doesn't matter if you dwell strictly in the underground or not, you can find a wonderful night here. Beautiful relics adorn the walls including an original Magma poster with most vertical surfaces painted silver. A quality sound system delivers live music you won't hear anywhere else. A lovingly curated jukebox keeps the ambience lively and interesting. Always worthy art shows that leaned towards pop. A well stocked bar and delicious food available day or night. Any self respecting urban neighborhood would die to have this sort of touchstone as its centerpiece for years and years. Long live UFO Factory. See More

UFO is rad expensive condos are lame. So much good music and good energy that comes from/through UFO, we need stuff like this to keep corktown from becoming one giant DIB. I love DIB I'm just saying. ...Cheap beer and live music are a solid business plan and I also love karaoke. Ok I'm done but just look at these ratings UFO is the spot and we're gonna make sure it's here to stay. See More

UFO is the perfect venue and bar for a low key good time any night of the week, I especially love karaoke Sundays, their endless popcorn and the bar staff-- and their brunch rules and their ultra bathroom is irresistible for mandatory selfies. Living down the street has really made this a go-to staple in the neighborhood. See More

I live in Baltimore now for grad school, but the UFO Factory is one of the places on my list every time i'm back home in Michigan. Their shows are diverse, inclusive and friendly. The vegan hotdogs ar...e the best things ever. BUT WHICH TOPPING?!? bahn mi? kimchi? thai-peanut sauce? It's always such a struggle because everything on the menu is amazing.

UFO Factory is my favorite bar in Detroit. It's got a low key vibe, the bartenders are engaging & friendly, and the drinks are great and well-priced. Literally the perfect dive bar! Love that they sup...port local artists as part of the bar is a gallery space and they also have awesome local and touring bands that come through. Plus, they have THE BEST vegan hot dogs around. Not to mention, 1/2 off food night on Wednesdays is what I live for. Yes, it's true! UFO is always a place we take friends from out of town as it's truly a place that reflects Detroit's culture and rich artistic talents. Best venue/bar EVER! See More

Very good selection of out of the ordinary overseas acts (one guy from the Books, Wreckless Eric, etc.) and a great homebase for a lotta good local bands. Veggie dogs and great soda selection with fre...e popcorn to boot make for a great venue. Please don't let this be the end! See More

Ive had the BEST of experiences here at UFO,and made great memories with local partygoers and friends alike. I was introduced to so much great music here, and all in all,not a single bad vibe was flic...ked upon me. From the food and atmosphere to the amazing staff, talent and audience that curates it,UFO is a GEM! However,It is a gem that CAN,WILL,and in fact,DID crack under pressure! It needs to be fixed immediately so that we can get back to keeping Detroit weird again. UFO deserves to be where it is. I hope it can be restored soon. See More

The popcorn's good, the staff's great, the jukebox kills, the background video library is to die for, and the arcade games are perfect for when you want to be in public but don't actually want to in conversation. Best spot in town. See More

I always have a great time here, low-key and great music. I really enjoy the patio and am grateful that building is finally being put to good use after all that time it was vacant...oh wait.

Food was equivalent to the hot dog vendor at Home Depot. Bartender had energy that was beyond depressing. Just sat at the end of the bar on his phone like a proper drone should. Second try, same vibe.... Two stars because they DID have some arcade games to distract you from a...muted movie. See More

This is one of my favorite places to see a show or just sit down and relax with a hot dog and a drink. I definitely hope this reopens in some capacity!

Corktown Strut was so much fun here! Friendly bartenders, cool art to admire on the walls and one of the best venues around for bands! Love this place and hope to be back in there soon!
