USMS at 2012 FINA Masters World Championships - Riccione, Italy
MORE INFO
Members
As one of the four Coaches selected by USMS to ensure that you have both a fast meet and a fantastic experience at the 2012 FINA Masters Swimming World Champion...ships in Riccione, Italy this coming June, I want to welcome all of you to our new Facebook site for FINA Worlds. This site will be a primary means of communicating and pushing out information in a timely fashion to our U.S. swimmers about all aspects of the meet. Please note that you do not have to be a member of Facebook to review the information on this site. For those of you who are Facebook members and have valuable experiences from either prior FINA events or from Riccione or Italy that you would like to share with your coaches teammates, you will be able to post this information here.

USMS started over a year ago in the planning for FINA Worlds 2012, and together with the excellent surveys and report-out by our Coaches from the last FINA Championships in Sweden, we have an excellent program of on-deck coaching, Team USA attire, and after swim social events planned for you. To kick this Facebook site off, I would like to draw your attention to two important postings. First, USMS Coaches Committee member Kristin Gary has put together a great report - based on first hand experience - to assist you in traveling to the meet and arranging your lodging and local transportation. If you are considering participating in Riccione, please give this report a good read.

Secondly, I would like to introduce you to your four coaches: Kelly McPherson, Stacy Peterson, Eric Mitchell, and myself. We have written short bios of our swimming backgrounds and experience and included them below. All of us are greatly honored to serve as coaches for Team USA in Riccione, and we will do our absolute best to help you achieve top performances.

I plan on attending Colony Zones at George Mason in mid-April and short course Nationals in Greensboro in early May, so if you are at either of these meets, please come say hello. For FINA Worlds, I plan on arriving by June 8 and staying through the completion of the Open Water races on June 17.

I look forward to coaching you in Riccione!

Arrivederci,
Frank Marcinkowski

Coaches:

Kelly McPherson

Kelly began swimming at the age of 8 in Baltimore and at the age of 9 was recruited to join North Baltimore Aquatic Club. She qualified and attended Junior Nationals in the spring of 1992 where she also qualified for her first Senior National Meet. In 1996, she competed in the Olympic Trials in Indianapolis. After graduating high school, Kelly went on to swim for the University of Southern California and was an NCAA qualifier in the 1650 freestyle.

Kelly joined Red Tide in 2007 and became a coach in 2009 and is currently an ASCA Level 2 certified coach. Her biggest passion is open water but is often found on the pool deck encouraging swimmers to try the distance events.

Stacy Peterson, MA, CSCS, USAW, HHC

Stacy Peterson is a Masters Swim Coach for La Jolla Swim Club located in La Jolla, CA. Stacy has been coaching Masters Swimming for Curl Burke Masters, UC San Diego Masters and La Jolla Swim Masters. In the pool, Stacy was a Masters Swimming National Champion in the 100 backstroke, 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle, as well as two-time Masters Swimming National Record holder. While attaining her degree in Kinesiology, Stacy was a competitive Big West Division I swimmer at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo where she was a finalist all four years in her top three events and a five-time individual school record-holder. While studying abroad, Peterson swam with the Australian National Swim Team working side-by-side in the water and weight room with Olympic medalists.

Stacy is a qualified Sports Performance Coach, and founder of Acceleration Sports, working with individuals, groups and teams of athletes nationally and internationally. She believes in training "the whole" athlete through proper sports performance training, nutrition, mental training, time management and injury prevention. In sports, just as in life, each area is unable to reach it's full potential without the help of another; they all go hand in hand to make the best athlete and individual (www.accelerationsports.net).
