Rest in Peace, Kaiser, South Burlington PD's K9 Officer. Kaiser and his partner and handler Corporal Redmond have assisted us several times when we've been in need of K9 support over the years. He will be sorely missed.

Today we are sending our thoughts to Corporal Redmond and his family, as well as all of those who serve at SBPD who lost a faithful member of their team.

It is with deep sadness that we share with you the news of the passing of Kaiser, South Burlington PD’s faithful K9.

Here are some words from Chief Whipple ab...out Kaiser:
Kaiser served SBPD and the Vermont Law Enforcement community with full heart and soul from July 2008 until his passing this morning. Kaiser’s partner and handler Corporal Mark Redmond was with him at the time of his death. Kaiser had been dealing with some medical complications that ultimately led to his passing. I have comfort in knowing that Kaiser was teamed with a most compassionate and faithful handler who provided him with all affection and recognition that he deserved. I am proud that Kaiser was a member of an elite team of law enforcement professionals here at SBPD who all valued his loyalty, spirit and vigor for the job.

We will update everyone when we have more details about arrangements for honoring Kaiser's life and service to SBPD. Please keep Cpl Redmond and his family in your thoughts.

Heads Up on Tuesday's weather. We've got a couple of things of note:
1) Strong winds across the Champlain Valley from Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night. Fr...equent gusts over 40 mph with even a few around 50 mph. We believe scattered power outages and downed tree limbs are a possibility.
2) Light snow overspreading the region during the day. Primarily 1-3" accumulation, but some slippery travel is possible for the Tuesday evening commute. The snow will turn to a light wintry mix Tuesday night and eventually end as plain rain early Wednesday.

We just dropped off some cash and item donations we have been collecting at All Breed Rescue Vermont. In 2015 they found homes for 586 dogs! We hope that these gifts will help them in their mission to find homes for our four-legged friends in need.

The weather outside is frightful !

Stay safe, slow down and take your time if you're on the roads today. There are a lot of traffic accidents and slide offs out there, especially on I-89, our friends at the #802VSP are busy!

As always, we're here if you need us!

Today was a special day for UVM Police. We had the honor of helping make the holidays a little brighter for the kids @ The Vermont Children's Hospital. We are humbled to be a participating agency in Operation Fire Cuffs 2016 along with Burlington Fire, Burlington Police Department, Colchester Police Department, Vermont State Police, Milton Police, Morristown Police, US Marshals Service, Fairfax Rescue, Winooski Police, Burlington Electric Department, South Burlington Fire... Department, and many others.

This event brings local public safety and service agencies together to collect toy donations for these special kids.

This was our second year participating, and thanks to many generous donations from our friends within the UVM community and beyond, it was even more successful than last year.

We want to say Thank you to everyone who donated to this great cause.
