Emergency shelter is OPEN tonight at 9pm at First United Methodist Church. Please spread the word.

Hello volunteers,

We will NOT open shelter tonight, as the weather does not meet the agreed upon protocol.

Tomorrow is looking likely though, in the case of thunderstorms. If you are signed up for tomorrow, you should get an email in the morning confirming shelter will open.

Please help if you can!

First United Methodist Church (4th and Washington) will be hosting an emergency hazardous weather shelter throughout the month of April. The shelter will be directed by FUMC's Interfaith Winter Shelter co-site directors, Sam Harrell, Stephanie Waller, and Michael Gastineau. It will be open from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM and will operate when the temperatures dip into the 30's and/or when thunderstorms or tornadoes threaten. This will be a smaller shelter and ...will not serve food or drinks.

For efficiency, we are recruiting volunteers for the first two weeks. Rather than recruiting volunteers on a daily basis when hazardous weather arises, if the weather is not considered hazardous we will email you the day-of to announce that shelter is cancelled. Otherwise, please plan on assisting on whatever nights you choose (see the link below).

If you have never volunteered with the Interfaith Winter Shelter or the Emergency Shelter Response Team, please contact Sam at sjharrel@umail.iu.edu for a training.

Hello,

Thank you so much for all your hard work this summer keeping women in the community safe from very hazardous weather. We have pulled together shelter, with the tremendous help of First Presbyterian Church, for women during thunderstorms, cold weather, and tornado warnings.

We are looking ahead at this week and we are expecting temperatures in the 30's on Wednesday and Friday (Halloween) night.

...

The Interfaith Winter Shelter opens on Saturday, so these will be our last days of providing shelter.

We are not calling the shelter at this point, but would like to get volunteers signed-up in the case that the forecast does not change.

We are particularly concerned about getting volunteers on Halloween night. If anyone can be of assistance, please please sign up at the link below.

Best,

Sam & Stephanie
