🌈 Not only will several UP.GRADERs be attending the conference along with both heads of the programme - but also at least two of the speakers are UP.GRADE lecturers! We're really looking forward to being there again for Take 3 of the International Conference on Colour in Film.

SOLD OUT!! All full-time conference tickets are now gone!

However, due to the larger seating capacity of our Monday/Tuesday venue, NFT3, we have asked to make a...vailable a limited number of additional, two-day-only (Monday/Tuesday) tickets for sale on Eventbrite, to offer an alternate option for those wishing to attend at least part of the conference, but unable to commit so far.

In September 2017, I've had the honour to hold a workshop at UP.GRADE, sharing the stage with Charles Poynton. The attendees included some former Up.grade students and it was very clear that they got excellent education leading to valuable skills and good jobs. Also, I could feel that the whole stuff there and Dirk Meier, in particular, is very passionate about good education and practical knowledge.
If I had to start from somewhere today, I would consider this a very good place to sit down and learn.

🌈 We're hard at work reading all the applications we received and watching video after video searching for potential new UP.GRADERs. Needless to say it's an extremely difficult task.

🌈 Who gave this Oscar recipient its winning colours? Yes, none other than Dirk Meier head of the UP.GRADE programme himself! Our heartfelt congratulations to him, the whole Fantastic Woman team and of course to our wonderful programme partner ARRI whose fantastic ALEXA XT captured it.

Congrats to the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film - A FANTASTIC WOMAN! The winner from Chile was directed by Sebastián Lelio + shot by Benjamín Echazarreta on ALEXA XT. "This film was made by a lot of friends. I want to share this award with all of you tonight," thanked Lelio.

🌈 Don't be like Ripley and push the button too late! You now have less than 24hrs to submit your application to UP.GRADE 2018-19! We can't stop the countdown.

Featuring the beautiful/terrifying voice of Helen Horton.

🌈 In 1977 Frederick Elmes (DP of David Lynch's classic Eraserhead) asked the defining question "How dark can dark be?"

In 2018 we got to put the same question to ARRI's Steffen Paul, colourist on Netflix's #DARK (DP Nik Summerer) in closed session with this year's UP.GRADERs.

A highly regarded dark knight of colour, Steffen was fantastically open in his answers, illuminating the special post workflow that DARK necessitated. Our heartfelt thanks to #ARRIMedia for this opportun...ity!

For more DARK-love and to spy some UP.GRADERs be at ARRI's special behind-the-scenes Berlinale event at the DFFB at 1530 tomorrow:

🌈 Did you know UP.GRADE has a fantastic sister programme? It's called SERIAL EYES. No, its not for colourists with more than two eyes, its for television writers! If you know one then tell them they can now apply for SERIAL EYES 2018-19! So if someone can't decide between the colour wheel or the typewriter - the DFFB has it all covered with pre, post and production. We love Serial Eyes - check it out! ✍🏻

FUN FACT: last year our UP.GRADERs graded a TV pilot directed and produced by a SERIAL EYES alumni! ❤️

🌈 With a few final tweaks still to make our newest UP.GRADE booklet is finally heading to the printers hopefully to be ready for next week's final presentations on the 23rd. See you there!

🌈 From colour maps to colour bibles: the UP.GRADERs learn what tools they will need to pack when facing the near impossible ethical choices that arise when undertaking the grading of a restoration or remastering project. Here Anke Wilkening of F. W. Murnau Foundation whose restoration projects include Metropolis (1925/26), The Blue Angel (1929/30) and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1919/1920) bravely leads them into a cave of fantastic and forgotten colours!

Reminder: applicants for UP.GRADE 2018-19 need to have their application submitted by tomorrow to qualify for an EU or non-EU tuition waiver. See for more information on applying!

🌈 Key UP.GRADE partner ARRI will hold a talk on the making of the Netflix series DARK at the DFFB Feb 17th. See you there!

DARK, which was lensed with the awesome ALEXA 65 and worked on by two UP.GRADE alumni was graded by colourist Steffen Paul. This Friday the current UP.GRADERs will be treated to a private walkthrough of the grading of the show with Steffen Paul at ARRI itself. Lucky them! Huge thanks for ARRI for their continued support of UP.GRADE ❤️.
