Meltingly Magnificent Milktert

Melktert is Afrikaans for "milk tart".

Being married to native of that Great Motherland ( I use 'native' in it's original sense here) I have come to learn that Milk Tart is a very popular South African dessert.

It consists of a blind-baked sweet pastry crust containing a creamy filling made from milk, flour, sugar and (in my case) cream instead of eggs. I also dropped a cinnamon stick into the milk plus a grating of fresh nutmeg. A touch of custard powder was added as well, thus the golden hue from the natural curcuma colourant.

In case you ask me for the recipe, mine was a conflation of one from 'Srimati's Vegetarian Delights' and a homesick recipe from an SA expat found on google. No shortage of recipes out there.

Reading Srila Prabhupada’s Light of the Bhagavata, I was struck by text 12 and his commentary on it:

"The mountains, although being struck by torrents of rain d...uring the rainy season, are not shaken, just as those whose hearts are dedicated to the transcendental Personality of Godhead are never disturbed, even when harassed by great misfortune." (LOB 12)

"Because a person who is spiritually advanced accepts any adverse condition of life as the mercy of the Lord, he is completely eligible to enter into the spiritual kingdom. Even though a person takes to the devotional service of the Supreme Lord, he may sometimes become diseased, impoverished, or disappointed by life’s events. A true devotee of the Lord always considers these sufferings to be due to past sinful activities, and thus without becoming disturbed he patiently awaits the mercy of the Supreme Lord. Such devotees are compared to high mountains, which are never agitated in any way, even when struck by powerful torrents of rain in the rainy season. Rather, such devotees remain humble in spiritual enlightenment. Free from pride and envy, they easily gain the mercy of the Lord and go back home, back to Godhead." (LOB 12 purport)

Hare Krishna.

A slightly fresh edit of an article I wrote a few years ago.
If we contemplate on the pastimes of Krishna’s beloved elder brother, a relevant question arises:
Why did Balaram give so much favor to the demoniac Duryodhan?

Fasting till noon today on the Disappearance day of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.

Srila Prabhupad residing in the holy Dham of Sr...i Vrindavan, on Monday November 14th, 1977, at 7:30 pm., which fell upon the Caturthi of the Gaura (Sukla) Paksa, Mula nakshatra, gave up this mortal frame surrounded by loving disciples engaged in 'Harinam-sankirtan', the congregational chanting of the Holy Name.
Translating Srimad Bhagavatam up until the very last breath, in a peaceful condition, and with the Holy Name on his tongue, Srila Prabhupada passed from this world in Sri Vrndavana Dhama to rejoin his worshipful Lords Sri Sri Nitai Gaura, Sri Sri Krsna Balarama, and Sri Sri Radhe Syamasundara in Their eternal abode.

"He reason ill who tells that Vaisnavas die
When thou art living still in sound!
The Vaisnavas die to live, and living try
To spread the Holy Name around !"

(Poem by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura)

Chant these names with love and you will feel the ecstasy:

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare ...
Hare Krishna ❤️
