Big part of recruiting players for me is finding those who know the meaning of empathy. In May, incoming freshman Claire Czerwonka took a life changing mission trip to Nicaragua.
Just the little things we all take for granted were not available. Claire brushed her teeth in the Pacific Ocean (using bottled water), showered (salt water) in a bathing suit as the shower was out in the open. Played soccer up and down the poverty stricken dirt roads for 6 hours one day - where sh...e hoped and prayed the ball didn't land in the sewage water (and many times it did) as it splashed up on her clothes or body.
She received a blessing from a 95 year old woman and stood listening to the blessing in Spanish - not understanding a single word the old woman said, but both embraced each other - all because Claire delivered her family rice, beans, salt, sugar etc.
The saddest moment Claire said, was when the little orphan "Rosa" had to leave. Claire and Rosa spent several hours blasting Spanish music on her phone (which Claire had downloaded ahead of time), combing each others hair and painting nails - Rosa didn't want to leave and kept coming back to give her "one more hug" and then the final hug ended with a "te amo"...I love you.
We are a team that understands how blessed we are to have the body, mind and family we've been given. Proud to have Claire join our Crusader family 💛
We are proud to announce Aimee Kaye (a.k.a. Mak) as our new assistant coach this season!
Mak played tennis at Leeds Metropolitan University in Leeds, England. She graduated with a degree (with honors) in Sports Events Management in 2015. She was able to play 2 more years of college tennis at Tiffin University where she also received her MBA in Sports Management. Mak is currently a pro at Lakeland Academy in Niles, Michigan.
Welcome to the family Mak 😀
This is a Valpo student-athlete. And she happens to be one of our tennis players! All 3 of our graduating seniors had a job (or their pick of law schools (Kat)) before they even graduated. That's a Valpo education. Paige Heuer
Impressive! We achieved the highest combined GPA of all sports teams at Valpo from the current academic year! They are exceptional student-athletes. Congratulations!!!! Go Valpo!
It's official! We've accepted the invitation to join the Missouri Valley Conference! Let's go Valpo!
