The 44th annual Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Annual Legislative Conference is almost here — actually it starts this evening! The conference has been affectionately dubbed “CBC Weekend”. This is a really big event that happens in our nation’s capital every year and draws people from all across the country, along with Members of Congress, to talk about things ranging from healthcare, equal opportunities, legislation and many other issues that are of concern in the United States for people of color. On the lighter side of things, there are book signings, receptions, book signings, a gospel concert, a prayer breakfast — and, did I say book signings already? :-) I’m so excited that I’ll be signing copies of my last three book titles (Jazz, Java & Jesus; Inspired to Move Forward and Good News In a Bad News World) in the author’s pavilion at the Washington DC Convention Center tomorrow, Thursday, September 25th from noon until 2pm!! The event is free and opened to the public, and books can be purchased from Barnes & Noble Howard University, who will be on-site. If you’re in the Washington, DC area — come out and join in the festivities! #CBCALC2014
“The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.” Deuteronomy 28:8 NKJV Each day that we wake up, we should be in expectation of receiving a blessing. The Lord tells us in Deuteronomy 28 that He will COMMAND the blessing on you, your homes and all that you set your hands to. And He means it! When God commands a blessing, He tells it where to go and when to show up. In other words, you have an appointment with a blessing! EXPECT good things to come your way from a very gracious and merciful God. God bless you!
I recently participated in Coffee-Mate’s #TakeBackVanilla campaign. I’ve been a fan of their French Vanilla coffee cream for years and their company wanted to show that the flavor of vanilla is anything but boring. Well, they created a caricature of me recording my radio show live on the air — and I just love it! That’s me on the left hand side of their homepage: Can’t see my picture? Here it is - And if you’re my Mother — you’ve had the picture reproduced in different sizes – 5×7, 8×10… Wallet-size, anyone? :-) It’s exciting to be a cartoon character! #TakeBackVanilla

I’m so grateful to have made some media coverage recently! My time at BookExpo America, as author author on the main exhibit floor, my radio show and my books made the news. Coverage included an article on Huffington Post Voces (Spanish), PBS’s Media Shift, WLVS Radio’s enewsletter and my home church, First Baptist Church of Glenarden’s VISION Magazine. Thank You Lord!
Last week, I was in New York City for Bookexpo America 2014. #BEA14 was trending on Twitter for several days and I can see why. I’ve been to several conferences and expos in my life, but this particular conference was on steroids. It was mega-packed with lines that wrapped around several ropes like being at an amusement park. All for the love of books. How beautiful! On the first day, on the way to the Javits Center, where the expo was being held, I beheld the same Times Square billboards on 7th Avenue where my pictures had been featured this past December. How exciting!! Then when I arrived at the Javits Center, I beheld my latest title, “Good News in a Bad News World” on their New Titles Showcase shelf. Again, how exciting! On day 3, it was time for me to sign some books in the Autographing Area. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many new people and people who said that they follow me on social media, and those who said that they just had to meet me because of my faith-based writings. Thoroughly enjoyed! It took me a few days just to recoup my energy after returning home. BEA14 was a tremendous experience, and I just loved to be able to represent Christ and His good news to the masses. #GoodNewsTour
I’m so excited that my national book tour, the #GoodNewsTour is getting ready to kick off on next Tuesday, May 20th in Bowie, MD! During the tour, which is set to end in August, I’ll be visiting cities in Maryland, DC, Virginia, Delaware, Georgia, North Carolina, New York City and a few more stops yet to be announced. If you’re in the area, I’d love to see you at one of the events. Stay tuned for more info as we get set to share the good news of Christ!
Book Expo America (BEA 14) is right around the corner! Later this month, I’ll be in New York City at the #1 Book & Author Event in the U.S. I can’t wait! I’ll have a coveted autographing table (#20) on the main exhibit floor, where I’ll sign copies of my fourth book, “Inspired to Move Forward” from 1:30 – 2pm on Friday, May 30th. If you’re also headed to the expo, make sure that you stop by and see me. And if you have any family and/or friends attending please tell them to stop by the Author’s Hub, table AH9. :-) #GoodNewsTour
Just recently, I was treated to a delicious experience courtesy of Scratch DC, a new food delivery service in the Washington, DC area. What I really appreciate about Scratch DC is that all of the ingredients in my Avocado Pesto Pasta with Garlic Shrimp package was FRESH, FRESH, FRESH! When I opened the box, I saw nothing but good, fresh food, already measured out, complete with instructions, just waiting for me to fire up my stove top. And firing up my stove top is just what I did - Add pasta to boiling water. Check! Add fresh, medium shrimp to a saute/frying pan. I can do that – CHECK! Add fresh tomatoes for the last few minutes of cooking the shrimp. Check, check! And just 20 minutes later, I had two heaping servings of delicious, piping hot, well seasoned Avocado Pesto Pasta with Garlic Shrimp that I made myself. Voila! If you live and/or work in the Washington DC area, you owe it to yourself to treat you and your family to one (or two, or three, or …) of their delicious dinner packages. The choices change each day, so check out their website and place your order. You’ll be so glad that you did! And while you’re at it, enter code AleyshaP for a 15% discount on your first order. Enjoy!
Noah the movie – what a disaster! In my last post, I encouraged my readers to support the Christian and Biblical movies that are in/or coming to the theaters this spring. However, after seeing Noah, it doesn’t fall into either of those categories. Let me explain: When the movie first started, I thought I was watching a trailer for another movie that I wasn’t there to see. And every time I think of the film, the only word that comes to my mind is “disaster”. Here’s why: There were more deviations from the Bible than there are accuracies – so whose report will you believe? And trust me, there are spoilers here, but I’m also not encouraging anyone to see this movie. The Bible says that Lamech, Noah’s father, was 182 years old when Noah was born, and after that, he lived an additional 595 years for a total of 777 years. (Yes, they lived a long time back in those days! ). However, in the movie, it shows Noah’s father being murdered while a young Noah, around twelve or thirteen years old sees it all. TOTALLY UNSCRIPTUAL. The Bible says that Noah had three sons; Shem, Ham and Japheth – and all of his sons had their own wife who went into the ark with them. This didn’t happen in the movie. As a matter of fact, his middle son, Ham, becomes very angry with his father in the movie, because Noah was supposed to find him a wife before the flood, but didn’t do so. TOTALLY UNSCRIPTUAL. The Bible says that Noah, his wife, their three sons and their wives, along with a male and female of each of the animals went into the ark and the Lord shut them all in. But not in the movie! The movie has Noah, his wife, their three sons and a young lady who (I think) was married to Noah’s oldest son, and the animals went into the ark — OH! And there was an evil stow-away who broke a hole into the ark so that he can come along for the ride too. TOTALLY UNSCRIPTUAL. The Bible says that Noah’s three sons and their wives are to repopulate the entire earth. However, in the movie, Noah tells his family that mankind will END with his youngest son. TOTALLY UNSCRIPTUAL. They never referred to God as God, just as the Creator. In the movie, God and Noah don’t communicate with each other. Noah gets his updates from God in a dream. If you read the REAL story of Noah in Genesis 5-9 in the Bible, you’ll see that God spoke directly to Noah on several occasions. And in Genesis 9:8-9, He speaks directly to Noah and his sons. And what’s with the rock giants, called “the Watchers” in the movie?? This is another deviation from Bible, where Genesis 6 tells us about the giants in the land. However, the Bible describes them as giant men, not rock creatures that look like transformers from a Flintstones cartoon. And there were yet, even more, inaccuracies in addition to the ones that I’ve listed here. Noah the movie was incredibly disappointing and misleading. I’ve seen a few different trailers for the movie before it came out, and none of their blatant lies, that they call artistic expressions, were ever made known in the trailers or commercials. You don’t know that the movie is incredibly unbiblical until it opened in theaters and you went to see it, as I did. However, I saw the movie, so that you don’t have to. I’d like to encourage you to use your time and money on real Christian movies that will bless your soul, not insult your beliefs. Take my word for it – and just say No to the Noah movie. I do believe that God can turn anything that the devil meant for evil around for good. And I’m hearing that more people are opening their Bibles after seeing this movie to see what actually happened. It’s a wonderful thing when people turn to the Word of God for their source. Be blessed!
Can anything good come out of Hollywood for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Yes! I am so pleased that there are now several movies being produced by the big motion picture companies that are biblically based, and proclaim that there is a God and that Jesus forgives sin. Here’s what I mean; Just last week, 20th Century Fox released the Son of God movie; This month, on March 21st, Pure Flix is releasing the God’s NOT Dead movie; One week later, on March 28th, Paramount Pictures is releasing Noah the movie; and then this Easter, Sony Pictures is releasing Heaven is For Real. I believe that God is using Hollywood, who is unlikely to evangelize for Christ, to do just that, evangelize for Christ! Make sure that you support these movies when they come to a theatre near you, and tell your family & friends about them. I talked about this very topic on my radio show this past Sunday – take a look!

Happy New Year! I always say that sometimes we don’t notice our blessings until we look back over them. As I’ve taken some time off to reflect on this past year, I can only say that God has been very, very good to me. Check out this infographic - We honor the Lord when we remember His blessings and give Him thanks for them. Take some time over the next week or so to reflect on the great and marvelous things that He’s done in your life. It may not look like a blessing in the present, but when you look back on some things, you’ll see that He worked things out for your benefit. I can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for 2014. He’s up to something good.
