Team WSCS took home 3 gold medals and 1 bronze at the regional Michigan Odyssey of the Mind competition on Saturday. All four teams now advance to the state competition! Let's give the teams and coaches a round of applause! 👏 All their hard work, determination and grit paid off. 🎉
🎶 Hear God’s word -through song - proclaimed through the 3rd graders during their recess time. This is a beautiful example of how God uses Mrs Idelle Wagner to inspire our students through the gift of music. 🎶
What was life like long ago? The 3rd grade historians time traveled to the pioneer era through Blandford Nature Center to uncover the history and used Grand Rapids Public Museum Anishinbek (Native American) artifacts in class to find out more. The students automatically started asking questions and looking for answers. The REAL buildings, objects and artifacts sure have the power to motivate and challenge students' learning across the curriculum (reading, writing, speaking, history and natural science). We also looked for clues for how we could see God in HIS-story. You could join in the adventure and discover what the students found out at the upcoming Winter in the Woods event at Blandford on Saturday, February 24.
Learning sure makes LIFE exciting! This week the outdoor learning spaces transformed into an Olympic experience AND a schoolyard sugarbush. 5th graders were out making content connections to the #WinterOlympics2018 and this sweet sign of the season happened. WSCS's Nature-based Preschool students tapped the nature preserve's Sugar Maple Trees. #MapleSugaring #KidsinNature
The following students' work was accepted into the Michigan Art Educators Association Juried Art Show at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Congratulations to Heidi Thomasma, Haidyn Ritsema, Cole Schmidt, Drew Verbeek, Jaycee O'Neill and Natalie O'Rourke. What a beautiful work!
Venture out and travel back in time to explore the daily life of a pioneer! Warm up in Blandford Nature Center's Robinson-Khutic Log Cabin, it will be open for viewing. 3rd grade students will be volunteering as historical interpreters, bringing the past to life for visitors through imagination and play. All visitors are welcome. (FREE with BNC membership or paid admission)
