I am almost speechless at the blessings this post has provided to me the past 24 hours... I don't know what else to say besides you are a group of angels among us!!! On Saturday afternoon, I found out... that we had to last minute relocate my future sister in laws bridal shower scheduled for that next day, Sunday, after a storm on Friday night took out the power and caused damage to our original location. This wonderful post was able to last second accommodate our party and provided AMAZING service in the process. Tom was just the sweetest ever, from the moment he answered my frantic phone call to the minute he left the post on Sunday afternoon. He spent all morning tirelessly cleaning and preparing the room for us to use after hosting a wedding there the night before. Any little question or request I had, Tom dropped everything to assist. I am so proud of the wonderful shower we were still able to throw, and could not have done it without the wonderful people at the VFW who continue to provide selfless acts of service to their community! Literally, the best experience ever!

Also, beautiful coincidence... my late Gramma's dear friend Fern was in attendance. Fern's husband, Willie, served with my late grandfather in the Air Force. When Fern walked in, she was almost brought to tears. When my grandparents moved to Wheaton years ago, the 4 would go to fish fries at this location every week. It was so special to be able to welcome a new sister in to our family in a location that was so special to my late grandparents!!

Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!! A hundred times, thank you!

A memorial service for our friend and Post member Lew Youngs will be held on Saturday, November 12, at 11:30 am. Lew, age 73, battled with emphysema and heart disease for many years.

Lew was in the Illinois Air National Guard, a reserve component of the US Air Force, from 1965-1993 and served in Vietnam and Desert Storm. He retired from the ANG as a crew chief and worked at Team Concept Printing in Carol Stream until his retirement in 2011. He served as our Post Commander fro...m June 2013 to March 2015. Lew enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and in particular, fishing at Lake Savant in Ontario, Canada. He was a diehard fan of the Sox and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and would get even grumpier when his teams lost!

Lew will be missed by his friends and family, which include his wife, Kathy; two sons, Joel (McKinney, TX) and Matthew (Winfield); four stepchildren, Steven (Fox Lake), Jennifer and Jessica (Lindenhurst), and Sherri (Mundelein); and his 11 grandsons and one granddaughter.

WANNA ADOPT A WONDERFUL PITTIE (OR TWO)? I’ve been fostering this delightful duo for two weeks and I must say that they’ve made my very first experience with their breed quite enjoyable. They’re not sisters but their brindle coloring and their playfulness together sure makes them seem related. They love to be petted and hugged and are quick to offer kisses as their thank yous. They both have sweet personalities and their own unique characters. Saba is a bit needier in the aff...ection department. Lola is a deep thinker and reacts only after giving some thought to whatever is stimulating her. She loves to chase squirrels and corners them up trees like she’s a coon hound. We’re trying to secure their adoption as a pair but if we need to let them go separately, then they’ll have to bid farewell to each other. Let me know if you’re interested in meeting this pair and possibly giving them their forever home.
