A history and analysis of government deficits and national debt in the United States, with recommendations for how to bring the debt under control
- 1. On page 122 WHB the tax burden of the USA is compared with OECD n...ations. The fact that their taxes cover a large amount of their lifetime health care costs and most working American families pay an average of $14,000 a year for family insurance is not mentioned. 2. Can you find the "average total that Americans pay into private insurance companies during the working years and show this compared to the amount paid into Medicare? I believe if the money paid into private insurance companies went into a single payer system that ALONE would go a LONG way to SOLVING our Medicare problem. I have found a couple of references that the "average American pays roughly $150,000 less into Medicare than they ultimately receive in Medicare benefits. That same "average" American paid roughly $5,000 a year for private insurance from age 20 to age 60 (being somewhat generous on the age). After 40 years of work $200,000 has been paid into health insurance. Does the "average" American receive $200,000 of care before age 60 or 65? NO There is a lot of money here. If workers could buy into Medicare at an "average" rate paid into private companies Medicare would be solvent a lot longer. 3. I am a part time nursing instructor and I instruct a course at a technical college entitled "Human Values In Health Care." I also happen to live in a tea party area of midwest U.S. and would like to write an editorial. Thanks, Cris Elstro See More
