- Please stop in at Yoga East Healing Arts Center, 827 Broadway. Helen... and I will be doing mini-arts projects: draw your own mandala and begin to color it. Also showing some of recent art work which works with the ever changing mandala template. We’re also inviting you to check out our tea room and greatly expanded space at Yoga East. That’s Friday, between 6:00 and 8:00. And yes, there will be home baked munchies. Mandala – Adult (and Kids) Coloring Blast – 25 minute mini’s. Bob and Helen Towner Artists Mandala is a spiritual, psychological and artistic form. Flowering, crystalline patterns emerge around a single center. In yoga philosophy a mandala represents the universe and the lotus. In Jungian depth psychology a mandala is a means for exploring one’s own consciousness. Buddhist monks make mandala of colored sand as a meditation practice. In Western religion it is found in Rose Windows and Celtic crosses. The photo is of a large mandala I drew incorporating the Lord’s Prayer from three different centuries. Those who want to play will learn in less than ½ hour how to draw a great big, blooming mandala and begin coloring it with markers. All supplies provided without cost. See More

- Sharing just a snippet from fellow yogi and meditation teacher, Sara... E. McNeil's post of a great article by poet Gary Snyder. The open Centering Prayer meditation group practice is held Saturday morningings at 8:30 at Yoga East Healing Arts Studio at 827 Broadwaty in Cap Girardeau. You are invited to sit with us. Donation basis and all donations go towards the Tuesday dinner for the homeless. Here's Snyder and the link. "Traditions of deliberate attention to consciousness, and of making poems, are as old as humankind. Meditation looks inward, poetry holds forth. One is private, the other is out in the world. One enters the moment, the other shares it. But in practice it is never entirely clear which is doing which. In any case, we do know that in spite of the contemporary public perception of meditation and poetry as special, exotic, and difficult, they are both as old and as common as grass. The one goes back to essential moments of stillness and deep inwardness, and the other to the fundamental impulse of expression and presentation." http://www.tricycle.com/feature/just-one-breath Thank you, Sara.
