Did you know that the U.S. Navy will be naming an aircraft carrier a...fter Pearl Harbor hero Doris Miller? It will be the first time that an aircraft carrier has been named after an African American. Miller was also the first African American to receive the Navy Cross for Valor.
Miller was a cook and attendant to the captain of his ship. Despite no prior training, he manned an anti-aircraft gun and shot down a Japanese plane during the attack on Pearl Harbor.
