Day 10. Hann River Road House to Musgrave Road House. These were originally Telegraph stations. Spaced a distance of 63kms as this could be ridden by the telegraph maintenance crews on horse back in a day. For us on a bike on a formed dirt road this was a shorter ride arriving about 1pm. Lots of creek crossings followed by steep sandy climbs. What varied country we live in and water makes a huge difference. See pics

Lakeland to Hann River. Lakeland to Laura was bitumen flat with a tail wind. 62km covered in 2.5hrs so we decided to head for Hann River. The dirt begins! The going gets tough. The choice is corrugations or sand. The next 73 kms took 6.5 hrs.

Departing Ravenshoe headed for Mareeba and looking forward to a very welcome rest day. A steep climb out of Ravenshoe to the top of the hill, 1142 meters with the wind turbines spinning. Then up and down through rain forest, out onto open grass land into Atherton a popular mountain bike town then a very welcome downhill to Mareeba.
