John McLaughlin’s Family has issued the following statement:

We are heartbroken to share the news that our uncle, John McLaughlin, has passed away after a two-year battle with cancer. We mourn his loss but also celebrate his remarkable life. He serves as an example to us all; with his indomitable energy and quick wit, he taught us to live fully and with irrepressible curiosity, and to take every opportunity to engage in lively debate with everyone you encounter. From him we l...earned the urgency of being keenly aware of the important issues of the day that impact our nation and the world. Years before the McLaughlin Group went on air, members of our family sat around our table while John bellowed out contentious issues and we posed as his provocative panel, relishing being his attentive audience and first fans. In later years, spanning many decades, we were inspired by John’s enduring following. We remain deeply thankful that he was buoyed until his last days by his intense relationship with his audience. We are overwhelmed by, and very grateful for the love and support that the public has shown to John and our family. We want to express our sincere gratitude to The McLaughlin Group panel members who have served over the years, and the loyal staff, crew and, of course, the fiercely devoted fans of “the Group.” For those who cared for John prior to his death, we greatly appreciate your patience and support. Thank you to those who have asked what you can do to honor his legacy. We know John would be flattered each time you enthusiastically engage in a raucous political discourse, and hold firm to your well-researched, deeply held convictions. We are heartened by all the outpouring of love and touching tributes by his media colleagues in the wake of his passing. We welcome and appreciate all of your warm and compelling reflections, and kind remembrances which have lifted our spirits immeasurably. John closed each show with his trademark valediction, “Bye bye.” Farewell, Uncle John.

We’ll miss you.
