SOPHIA people, check out this amazing opportunity!

Alejandro Strong

Im starting to plan my 2018 trips, and was wondering if you all had ideas for trips or people to partner with. Let me know of artists, authors, poets, philosophers, cooks, crafts people that you think would be good to work with.

A publicly engaged scholar is looking for support. Check it out!

"We can always make a difference if we muster the courage to think critically, to care for others, and to sustain hope, so we can bring power and pressure to b...ear on the prevailing status quo." -- Cornel West

If you are in Memphis and are connected to an academic or religious community, would you please consider sharing my story with your group, or even setting up a time where I could come speak about Cornel West, liberation theology, ethics, black studies, social critique, etc?

I'm humbled and amazed that just twelve donors have helped me raise over $1700 to support the writing of my new book on Cornel West and the crises facing contemporary ethics and religion. Yet we still have a long way to go in a short time if we are to meet the goal and allow me a short sabbatical from full-time restaurant work to complete the manuscript, before I begin adjunct teaching again in the new year.

I have pledged any money *beyond* the goal of $5,000 will go toward a new grassroots education initiative I am trying to launch that will support others in the Mid-South who are on the margins of institutional academic life but want to engage in serious research and writing in Philosophy, Ethics, and Liberation Theology (the PELT Center). Thank you all so much. #LetSufferingSpeak #PELTCommunity

Note SOPHIA's role in this story:

In this piece (link with photo below) in the Stone (NYT), note the passage about the "pluralist revolt." SOPHIA was central to it. For an earlier NYT account, mentioning SOPHIA, see this piece too: https://www.philosophersinamerica.com/…/Bernstein-Full-SOPH…

Viewing it only as a political cause that benefits women ignores its full potential.
