#DidYouKnow: the tracks you see that aren't paved but rather forged ...by footprints over time are called desire lines? 👣 UNSW's Dr Mike Harris says while these unofficial trails are often quite charming, they indicate that the designer hasn't thought about the natural way people want to use a space. Next time you stumble upon a desire line, make note of how the footpaths around it are planned. Do they enable you to get from A to B in the most logical way? How would you design a better layout? Meet Bernie Fehon, UNSW Masters of Science (Industrial Design) alum ...and founder of Vinnies CEO Sleepout, an annual fundraiser for people living on the streets. Bernie started his career in design before moving to financial planning, becoming a formidable CEO by age 38. Presented with the challenge of creating a fundraising dinner, Bernie used his eye for design to find a creative solution. The result was raising awareness for homelessness by sleeping out. The event is now a global success. Last year in Australia the event raised $7.9 million for Vinnies who help thousands of Australians that experience homelessness each night. Bernie remains proud of the events origin. "Being able to exercise [design] skills in a way that leads to a more sustainable future for the world is very exciting". #YourBEstories See More
