It's very welcome news that the Football League has approved a major change to the Football Creditors Rule which will ensure that unsecured creditors are no longer left behind when a club enters administration.

This was one of the main recommendations of our Select Committee report and a key driver behind my introduction of legislation to reform the governance of football clubs in England earlie...r this year. This change will make a real difference to the many small non-football creditors, such as the staff at a match day ground, who have in the past not been able to access money owed to them when their employer went into insolvency.

Insolvencies are never pleasant, however I am hopeful that a fairer balance between the interests of all creditors will now be able to be reached as and when these unfortunate circumstances do arise in the future.
