Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has announced that he will retire from football at the end of the 2012-13 season.

At the age of 35, the centre-back has made a total of 723 senior appearances for the Reds during his time at Merseyside and has won a number of trophies including the Champions League and the FA Cup.

"It has been a privilege and an honour to represent this great club for as long as I have and I am immensely proud to have done so and thankful for all the support I have had,” he said.
