Evander Howe 1860-1883 Jan de Leeuw Abstract In the 1860s Evander Howe came from Vermont to Portland, and bought a 160 acre homestead in what is now the area where the Piedmont, Overlook, Humboldt, and Arbor Lodge neighborhoods meet. At our PNA general meeting last week, we were notified that PPS has proposed to shuffle student populations and facilities- including the Applegate school site in Piedmont.
This could mean dispersing the existing HeadStart and NAYA youth programs there, fencing that part of Farragut Park near the school, adapting street facilities for schoolhouses for bussing students, and most importantly- big decisions will be made about the future programming for the highest-needs special education students at Pioneer, and for the highly-gifted students at Access Academy. http://www.oregonlive.com/…/portland_superintendent_reveal.…

"I just really feel like it's destroying something that's working really well for the sake of a different program," said Amy Estep, a classroom therapist who has been at Pioneer for 15 years.
