HERE AT PIKE LAKE LIQUOR WE INVITED A GREAT FRIEND OF OURS TO SIT DOWN AND REVIEW A BRAND NEW BEER IN OUR STORE EACH WEEK. WE ASKED THAT HE WRITE A COMPLETELY UNBIASED, UNFILTERED (SMILEY FACE) CRITIQUE; HIS HONEST OPINION OF THE BEER. SO, HERE GOES WEEK "1" OF THIS NEW INSTALLMENT!

BRIAN'S WEEKLY BEER REVIEW (ALASKAN FREERIDE APA):

"MY FREERIDE BEGAN ICY COLD, I COULD SMELL THE HOPS, BUT THEY WERE FAR AWAY. THE FIRST YANK WAS BITTER AND WENT FOR THE THROAT BUT NOT IN A BOST...ON STRANGLER SORT OF WAY. AS IT WARMED UP IT BECAME SWEETER AND STILL MILDY BITTER. THE HOPS AROMA WAS STILL THERE, BUT SO WAS THE AROMA OF AN OLD MILITARY FOOTLOCKER (MALTS?). THE LABEL MADE ME THINK THIS WAS CREATED TO GET CRAZED X-GAMES JUNKIES OFF THE MOUNTAIN DEW AND ON TO A RESPECTABLE HANG-OVER. SEASONED HOP HEADS COULD INGEST THIS IN 6-PACK QUANTITIES AND SUFFER FEW, IF ANY, ILL EFFECTS. LIGHTER THAN I.P.A.'s AND DRINKABLE."

SCORE: 3.75/5

Brian's Weekly Beer Review #4:
(Deschutes River Ale)

"To Begin, several disclaimers:

...

1) Not all beer styles suit everybody.
2) Deschutes Brewery is world class and a purveyor of some very fine products.
3) I consult my taste buds after every sip to determine their state of ecstacy or lack thereof. They tell me what to write even if some find them and me wrong.

So there we were, (me) and a new Deschutes flavor to evaluate. Then it happened. This copper colored ale unleashed a 'blitzkreig' of tiny, angry bubbles that felt as though I had swigged a cup of Dr. Pincushion's accupunture in a jar. Not much hop that I could identify and a thin, sour taste. Imagine a corrosion encrusted car battery, now sprinkle a box of baking soda on it, add a 1/3 cup of water and lick the battery clean. Remember, my taste buds tell me this stuff. At 4.0 ABV this is an alternative to Michelob Golden if you like such a thing. Sadly, not my kind of grog.

Score: 2.75/5
