Watching "Cry of the City" a 1950's cops and robbers movie. In the medical ward of a prison, one of the inmates says "I'm the trusty around here".

I noticed that Martin Luther King wrote about a "trusty" at the Birmingham jail, and wanted to know if MLK had made an error. He had not. Though it looks terribly wrong to me, and I have always heard it pronounced with stress on the second syllable, "trusty" is used for the jail sense, and "trustee" in that sense is uncommon to the point of being regarded as wrong.
