Mikä löytö! What a find!
Three days ago researchers openened the lid of the tomb of Pedro, son of king Enrique II, in the cathedral of Segovia in Spain. Pedro died as a child in 1366, b...ut his remains were transferred to another church and tomb in 1558.
Underneath the lid they found a small chest. This chest contained a few bones, a woven girdle and:
TWO SILK COTTES!

The smallest of the two cottes has a button closure and sports multiple gores in the hem. This application of gores was a typical male fashion fad of roughly the years 1350-1365. The author of the late 14th century Limburg Chronicle writes:
"Darnach zuhandes drugen si rocke mit vir unde zwenzig oder drissig geren"
=
'Thereafter (c. 1351), they wore cottes with 24 or 30 gores'
You can see this fashion depicted in a.o. English and German art of the time as well. A hem-fragment from Switzerland contains the same construction.
What a rarity this Spanish find is!

Under medeltidsveckan på Gotland i år fick jag äran att vara en av fotograferna för eventet Battle of Wisby lV. Det var en superhäftig upplevels...e och många bilder blev det. Dela gärna albumet från min facebook eller hemsida om ni vill så blir jag jätteglad.
För privat bruk får man ladda ner bilderna, men gör det via en knapp på hemsidan (www.bildbageriet.com/galleri) då facebook komprimerar bilderna väldigt mycket. Ange fotografen om du laddar ner bilder istället för att dela hela albumet, info finns på hemsidan. Tack!
