Here I am with Ted Asti today, who is celebrating 100 years on earth - nearly 60 of those years in Superior, Colorado!

Ted's life has been defined by service, serving in WWII, then many years later as Mayor of Superior and on the school board, and starting a small business in Boulder. Happy birthday, Ted and thank you to all our veterans!

I sponsored a bill that would prohibit President Trump from wasting taxpayer money to fulfill his fantasy of leading a military parade. There are so many better ways to show our pride and strength as a country. If President Trump wants to talk about the military, let's first talk about how to honor and care for our veterans (hint: it's not a parade).

President Trump wants a military parade. His budget director says it could cost the United States $30 million at a time of rising deficits.

As your Congressman, I make it a priority to serve you or your family directly, helping you navigate through federal agencies.

We were able to help Tom, a veteran who resides in district. Tom had a hip replacement surgery, and after weeks in the hospital, he was given the ok to go, free to walk without restriction. One day shortly after, while waiting for the bus, Tom’s leg dislocated. Doctors managed to repair it with very minimal damage done, and although Tom felt fortun...ate, he was worried about the $25,000 medical bill. As a Medicare recipient and veteran, Tom expected to be reimbursed for his medical expenses, and while Medicare complied, he hit a snag with the VA. That’s when he contacted us. Within days, we were able to resolve the snag, and Tom will be receiving his reimbursement shortly.

Do you need help navigating a federal agency, or have we already provided you with assistance? We would love to hear from you either way!

Public spaces should be accessible to everyone, and because of the Americans with Disabilities Act, there are minimum standards for accessibility. Most people agree that’s a good thing. But yesterday, Congress tried to chip away at the ADA, attempting to eliminate a requirement for public accommodations to prove compliance, and further shifting the responsibility to the victim of discrimination to prove a violation has occurred. It is backward thinking, and with the wellbeing of my entire community in mind, I voted no.

Backers say the ADA Education and Reform Act would keep small business owners from being targeted for legal shakedowns. But opponents say it would remove any incentive businesses now have to comply with the law before a complaint is filed.

Love is love, and an Olympic victory is an Olympic victory. I’m excited that for the first time ever, #TEAMUSA includes openly gay and lesbian athletes. Yes, The Official Johnny G. Weir was still in the (very fashionable) “closet” when he competed. I’m so proud to be cheering on Brittany Bowe, Gus Kenworthy, and America’s sweetheart Adam Rippon, who deserves extra kudos for keeping the focus on sport and competition rather than letting tweets by the Vice-President and President's son distract him. It means a whole lot to gay and lesbian Americans to proudly cheer on a team that better represents the diversity of our great nation, which is our strength.
