In most regions of the United States, dog overpopulation as an issue has been solved, and there are more potential owners than there are local pet dogs available. What an event! Saturday night, 233 breed enthusiasts attended the first gala benefiting NAIA, raising nearly $16,000 to continue preserving our breeds and sport. We are blown away by the generosity. Thank you!

Kindly indulge us as we offer our gratitude to a handful of special supporters:

• Laura Reeves of Pure Dog Talk fame, whose brainchild it was to host a fundraiser in conjunction with the Rose City Classic dog show, and who served as organizing chief;

...

• Michael Faulkner, AKC distinguished judge, whose humor and warmth united and energized the crowd in his role as auctioneer;

• The spectacular lead volunteers Valerie Nunes, Michelle Santana, Bill McFadden, Lynda O'Connor, and NAIA board member Patte Klecan whose planning and execution made it all look so easy (but we know it wasn’t!);

• Tyler Crady who added a fun and memorable touch to the event by creating a “selfie” booth;

• Table hosts Ron & Natalie Riddick, Andy Linton, KT Handling, Tonya Struble, NorCal Bulldogger, and Ed Thomason;

• The many individuals and businesses that donated auction and raffle items, and

• The breed enthusiasts and dog lovers who bid on items and purchased raffle tickets.

And, to our generous sponsors Royal Canin, Trupanion and Pure Dog Talk, the event would not have been possible without you.

We’ve heard rumblings about ideas for a 2020 event and can’t wait to see all of you again!

A man "liberates" 15 racehorses, leading to the drowning death of one of these magnificent animals.

The story is ridiculous and sad, but a perfect distillation of the mindset we are up against.

No, this isn't about that guy with the machete, but another, somewhat less viral (but more pertinent to NAIA) story. An Ohio man declared to police that 15 racehorses wanted to be "free," after releasing them from their stables. Sadly, one of these poor "liberated" horses fell through the ice ove

While the general public lags behind the organized dog community in understanding the issues surrounding pet importation, several federal agencies are working to make sure that imported pets meet the minimum requirements necessary to enter the United States...

If you are a passionate dog breeder, concerned about the protection and preservation of your breed, or someone working with a responsible rescue organization, you are probably aware — acutely so — of the dangers posed by the irresponsible importation of pets.* While the general public lags behin...
