On 07/09/2024 13:36 hours, the Midway Fire District was dispatched to the 3100 Block of Bay Street for a residential structure fire. The 911 caller reported seeing heavy smoke emitting from the attic of a two story home. Engine 35 arrived on scene and Captain Mike Yeager and F.F. Tim Nations advanced a 1.75" handline to the rear of the home, where they located the fire extending up the exterior of the home. The fire was quickly knocked it down, while additional crews checked for extension. Fire fighters were able to prevent any further extension into the attic. The fire appeared to have started in an exterior outlet and then traveled up the exterior wall. Midway was assisted by Avalon Station 12, Escambia County Engine 13 and Holley-Navarre Engine 41. There were no injuries reported.
On 07/06/2024 01:01 hours, Midway Truck 36 and Battalion 35 were dispatched for a 3rd alarm assignment to the 5000 block of San Miguel Street in Avalon. As firefighters from Avalon Station 12 arrived on the initial box alarm, they encountered a fully involved two story home. Prior to their arrival, the homeowner was able to safely evacuate his family. LifeGuard E.M.S. was requested to evaluate them for possible smoke inhalation. The home was a total loss and the Red Cross was requested to relocate the family.

Wow! 🤩 What an amazing year for Manna Food Pantries! The Donut Strike was a huge success, with a total of 16,057 pounds of food collected to support those in ne...ed. Additionally, over $39,000 was raised to further assist this wonderful cause. Special recognition goes to Midway Fire District for receiving the most donations including 3,341 pounds of food, which will provide 5,607 meals. Thank you all for making a difference! 🍩💪

Summer is synonymous with barbecues, parades and fireworks. The National Safety Council advises everyone to enjoy fireworks at public displays conducted by professionals, and not to use any fireworks at home. They may be legal but they are not safe.
Every year, thousands of people are injured badly enough to require medical treatment after fireworks-related incidents, with many of the injuries to children and young adults. While the maj...ority of these incidents are due to amateurs attempting to use professional-grade, homemade or other illegal fireworks or explosives, less powerful devices like small firecrackers and sparklers can also cause significant injuries.
Additionally, fireworks start an average of 19,000 fires each year.
Fireworks Safety Tips: If You Choose to Use Legal Fireworks
If consumer fireworks are legal to buy where you live and you choose to use them, be sure to follow the following safety tips:
Never allow young children to handle fireworks
Older children should use them only under close adult supervision
Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol
Anyone using fireworks or standing nearby should wear protective eyewear
Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands
Never light them indoors
Only use them away from people, houses and flammable material
Never point or throw fireworks at another person
Only light one device at a time and maintain a safe distance after lighting
Never ignite devices in a container
Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks
Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding
Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish fireworks that don't go off or in case of fire
Never use illegal fireworks.
