Training Tuesday- Rope Rescue Operations
Metro Fire’s all-hazard, all-risk Type 1 Heavy Rescue team out of Firehouse 21 has been conducting rope rescue exercises on the American River.
During this exercise, our crews set up a two-rope high angle offset system (cross haul system). This advanced system is crucial for safely moving a rescuer and victim from one location to another while minimizing tension on the anchors.
...Why does this training matter? These techniques increase operational readiness, ensuring our teams are always prepared to handle real-life rescue scenarios efficiently and safely. By continually honing our skills, we reaffirm our commitment to providing the highest possible service to our community.

Metro Fire, Sacramento County Airports Fire, and Cal Fire will be conducting range management burns on the Illa M. Collin Conservation Preserve along Eagle’s Nest Road in Mather today from 8:45-11am.
The purpose of these burns is to enhance upland vernal pool habitat conditions by targeting invasive grass species and reducing thatch and other dense vegetation that could create a major fire danger to the surrounding community. We have been requested to perform these burns by the Center for Natural Lands Management, the preservation management agency.
All prescribed burns are constantly re-evaluated, utilizing a Go/No Go checklist that is based on weather, fire conditions, resource availability, and incident activity. If burning conditions become unfavorable for a safe, controlled burn, operations will be immediately stopped.
