'Did you know that NCDMVA's headquarters are housed in one Raleigh's earliest surviving office buildings?

The three-story brick Seaboard Building, built in 1861, is one of Raleigh's earliest surviving office buildings and served as a railroad office for more than 100 years.

This historic landmark housed the Raleigh and Gaston Railroad and subsequently the Raleigh office of the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad, before state government bought it.

After World War II, it was dedicated to Seaboard rail yard employees who fought in the war.

The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 6, 1971, at its original Halifax Street location.

The state of North Carolina purchased the land in 1977 and moved the building to its present location at 413 North Salisbury Street, re-designating it as a Raleigh Historic Landmark in 1990.

Since 2015 this historic building on North Salisbury Street in downtown Raleigh has housed the North Carolina Department of Military & Veterans Affairs -- and we are proud to continue to build upon its rich history of honoring veterans and serving North Carolinians.'
