Update on the Instant Pot...so as you can see, it’s still in the box and has made its way from the kitchen to a corner of the living room. I remain intimidated by the size and many buttons.

Question for the manufacturers: Why should a kitchen appliance resemble a time machine? I am not an engineer nor did I go to any kind of technical school. I’m a regular person with regular dreams.

When I purchased this device I assumed it came with a blessing that would transform me into... the kind of person who reads instructions. Unfortunately that has not been the case.

At this point I feel like the Instant Pot is not only judging me but bullying me by existing. I don’t deserve this. Do I want to make nutritious meals for my family? Yes. Am I willing to get NASA certification to do so? No. At the end of the day, I don’t need this kind of negativity in my life.

Because I still believe I’m only a purchase away from being the woman I want to be, I bought a brand new Crock Pot this morning. My old one was was too big and I think I lost it. It was on sale for under $40 which makes me a wise steward and investor, plus it only holds four quarts which means when I make prison chili we don’t have to eat it for the rest of our lives.

My new Crock Pot doesn’t take up much counter space and most importantly, I know how to use it. It has a “warm” setting so I can leave it on when I pick the kids up from school. I’m a little afraid because of that This Is Us episode that shook me to the core, but life is about taking risks and I feel bad about all the McDonalds and pizza.

I have some ground beef in the freezer that I’m going to dump in with farm fresh canned tomatoes, beans, spices, and half an onion so finely chopped nobody knows it’s there. I’d add a red pepper but my kids act like cooked peppers are live slugs so I can’t.

Later today I’ll get a bag of corn tortilla chips and a block of cheddar cheese. Corn chips come from corn which is an FDA recognized vegetable making it a side dish. I’ll serve it with my city’s finest tap water run through a Brita filter (which I also bought today).

I’m not going to lie, the Instant Pot hurt me, but I have the receipt and God’s been working on my heart to forgive and let things go.

If you have a kitchen appliance that is lowering your self-esteem, return it or sell it online because frankly, life is hard enough without being told you’re not good enough by inanimate objects.

I also bought a couch. Its still in my car.

I hope you have a wonderful Instant Pot-free day.

Love always,

Bunmi 💛

PS. Instant Pot company owners, I’m not trying to hurt you but frankly you started it.
