ARTIST! We stopped by to see Stephenville sand artist extraordinaire, Joaquin Cortez, creating this detailed and lifelike sand sculpture of an eagle. He told me he actually makes the sand by sifting local sand and clay for the exact mix & texture of Port A sand - known around the world as an excellent sand carving medium. He mixed in dirt for the color in the feathers, beak, & eye. The minute detail and craftsmanship are particularly evident in the individual feathers and realistic beak. Drop by to see him working in the Cre8 Signs parking lot on Graham Street just across the park from the S'ville City Park. He's planning to add a jet, bottle rockets, and a banner - "Land of the Free."
