CLARIFICATION: Since this original post continues to be taken out of context by the local and national media, I am editing this post to offer additional context. The list below was created by the DISD Administration as schools to research. After researching them, the Administration decided NOT to propose any name changes beyond the initial 4 schools. I support this decision. At no time did I believe that any of the 20 schools on the list should have been changed. I singl...ed out Ben Franklin Middle School in my original post because that is the only school in the District that I represent, and I knew that my constituents would want to know my opinion on that particular school. I did not mention Franklin to imply that I did support the other schools on this list. I don't support changing the names of the other schools, and to my knowledge there is not a single DISD Trustee that does support changing those names. The DISD Board President has made it clear that the issue won't even be brought to the Board for a vote.

ORIGINAL POST: At Thursday's Board Briefing, the Administration recommended that the Board change the name of four schools:
1. Albert Sidney Johnston Elementary School
2. William L. Cabell Elementary School
3. Stonewall Jackson Elementary School
4. Robert E. Lee Elementary School
The Administration also mentioned that they were doing research on several additional schools. Many of you have asked for that list of schools, so I am sharing the list below. The only additional District 2 school on the list is Ben Franklin Middle School. I will not support a name change for Franklin since Benjamin Franklin clearly had many accomplishments that form the basis for why the school was named after him. I don’t believe this school was named after Franklin to send a signal of oppression and control.
