About an hour ago, I joined 23 other Senate Republicans to pass the strongest Pro-Life bill Missouri has ever had. Abortions will now be illegal at around 8 weeks—when the heartbeat of the new child is detectable by ultrasound.
It was a surreal moment to see Lt Gov Mike Kehoe call the vote total in favor of strengthening Missouri’s protection for the smallest Missourians. But it happened, and just like that the prayers and hopes of millions of supporters and activists and ci...tizens who have been waiting for this day were answered.
And now I’m so excited I can’t sleep. Im sitting on a park bench down the street from my apartment watching the sun come up. After fighting for 16 hours, we actually did it!
The dawn is fitting, no? The fight against the tragedy of abortion has been going on for decades. It has indeed been a long night of waiting and praying and pain for all those affected by this institution of death.
But the sun always rises. And God has a plan for us. Thank you to everyone who sent prayers, made phone calls, sent emails to legislators, visited the Capitol in person to support the effort or in any way lent their voice to the defense of life so that today could happen. I’m humbled and thankful—incredibly thankful—that St Charles chose me to be their voice for such an important day!
