In the past couple weeks we have had two incidents of bears getting into rodent poison. We highly recommend using other means for pest control. However, if you choose to use poison please make sure that it is secured in its container and kept in a storage box in a secure garage or house. Even consuming a small amount can kill bears. The poison used to kill ground squirrels is fish flavored and was put on grain stored in pvc pipes in a shed. The bear broke into an old shed to ...get it. Remember bears have huge olfactory bulbs in their brains and can smell things we cannot fathom. Depending on how much the bear consumed in 4-5 days that bear will likely be dead. The other bear pictured here, climbed into the back of a truck where a small bottle of gopher poison was stored in a plastic container. The bear consumed the bottle and died within hours since the poison basically liquified it’s insides and he bled out. Please consider other pest control options or be very mindful about storage.
