Last evening, 8/3/2020, Sheriff Mitzi G. Johanknecht, along with Auburn Police Chief O'Neil, presented 5 teenagers with the Sheriff's "Medal of Heroism" Award. These brave young men stepped in to help our Deputy who had been put in a chokehold by a DUI suspect in the city of Auburn.

The teens saw her struggling to breathe and jumped in to help subdue the suspect so she could get free and handcuff him. They quite possibly saved her life.

This is only the second time Sheriff... Johanknecht has awarded a citizen the Medal of Heroism, and award she created to honor community members who do extraordinary things. The deserving recipients are:
