I was disappointed when I saw this article in the Star-Telegram yesterday. It concerns the efforts by some in the county GOP party to remove Dr. Shahid Shafi from his appointed position on the TCGOP executive committee.
I have known Dr. Shafi for several years now. We have participated on panels together, I have seen him at various GOP conventions (as a delegate to senatorial and state conventions), I have seen him at many grassroots events, and have been together at several... campaign events for conservative candidates. He's about as engaged and involved as anyone else in the county. He's also done a good job as a councilman for the city of Southlake. By all accounts, he is very well-suited and qualified for his current position. To me, that should be the litmus test for whether he should stay in his current position - not his religion.
I am not a precinct chair and therefore do not have a vote when the executive committee convenes in September. But, if I did, I would vote to keep Dr. Shafi in his current position and encourage him to keep up the good work. https://www.star-telegram.com/…/state…/article217070295.html
