What Do You Do When You've Beaten Cancer Twice?
If you're Sgt Chad Mumbauer, you conquer Mount St. Helens!

We are incredibly proud of this man. He is an inspiration to so many and serves as a daily example of the power of the human spirit.

...

Chad posted this message after finishing the climb: Greetings, I want to take a moment and Thank everyone for their support that enabled me to fulfill my dream/goal of climbing Mt. St Helens, my intention for doing this in such a public manner was to motivate and inspire everyone to get outside and enjoy your health, be grateful for everything we have, and realize perseverance will overcome anything. #MtStHelens

HIS STORY:
It was in 2010 that Chad was first diagnosed with brain cancer. While on a family ski trip, he had a pretty nasty accident, crashing into a tree and was hospitalized with 5 blood clots in his lungs. He didn't know it then, but it was that accident that probably saved his life. Through the battery of tests it was discovered that he had a large mass in his frontal lobe and in early 2011 he underwent a craniotomy and resection. After the operation, he battled his way back and returned to his role of Sergeant and leader of our SWAT team.

Unfortunately in early 2015, the cancer returned and Chad began his second battle with the ugly disease. Undeterred, he started the year-long chemotherapy treatments, finishing up this past March. During this time he also set out a plan to achieve a life-long goal of climbing Mount St. Helens. And, like any U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he worked hard to achieve it.

On Thursday, July 14, he did just that, along with his beautiful daughter Morgan. They conquered the mountain in 9 hours and 44 minutes.

Thanks to his other beautiful daughter Madison for posting updates and sharing photos online.
