I join the City of Birmingham in extending condolences to everyone suffering after the shooting at UAB Highlands. I extend sympathies to the family of nursing supervisor, Nancy Swift, fatally shot while at work on Wednesday night. I also offer prayers for hospital employee, Tim Isley, and his family as he recovers from his injuries. I thank the Birmingham Police Department, Birmingham Fire and Rescue and so many others for acting quickly to help.

Too many lives have been lost to senseless violence like this. It breaks my heart and the hearts of those close to those lost to violence. Any type of violence strips our communities of the treasures we hold dear today and the promising future for tomorrow. May we unite as one as we hold up all of those affected.
