Along with a few members of Congress, I've been traveling and working throughout the Middle East and several Eastern European countries including Georgia, Romania, and Lithuania.
We met with multiple Presidents and Prime Ministers, reviewed security measures, visited with our military servicemen and women in some remote places accomplishing some special tasks.
Our discussions with Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu were profitable followed by an engaging meeting in Jericho w...ith the Palestinian authorities.
In Jordan, we met with the Royal Family before driving a few kilometers south of the Syrian border to observe Za’arti Refugee Camp. We met with the UNICEF leaders and walked through this city of 80K people living in tents and plastic in the middle of the desert. Over a million have fled Syria into Jordan under Assad’s regime in Syria. Prince Feisal in Amman expressed to us his concerns about this influx as well as false or no documentation submitted by the Syrian refugees.
In the Eastern European countries, Presidents and Parliament members expressed the importance of NATO and Russia’s ever-threatening presence. In Georgia, we we observed new Russian bases built inside the Georgia border. A common theme echoed among these countries was clear - Russia interprets kindness as weakness and our leaders must show strength… It is the only language Russia speaks.
It has made me think about the nation's future as we’ve reduced our military might, accepted man’s word over God’s and burdened our society with regulations and compliances that have damaged our economic sustainability.
Ronald Reagan reminded us that an exceptional past does not guarantee a promising future.
As I'm flying home across the Atlantic today, I’m reminded how much God has blessed America. The fertile soil, the mountains, the agriculture, beautiful beaches, our natural resources and impressive cities from coast to coast is unlike no other place in the world.
We have the potential to continue to be the beacon of hope for the entire world. From what I've seen, they're waiting for us to lead.
